And then they took Tier 2 by storm .
Nearly going straight through to Tier 1 .
Only a run of five games without a goal held us back .
Anybody at Champions Luton Town (1-1) last game of the season ?
They threw that many coins at us we could buy a few beers on the way home .
    Thanks Hatter's .
Mind you the atmosphere outside after the game was a bit dark .

    Reight side...hence the avatar ;)

Aye...was there. Was a nipper with my dad and brother in the seats. You had to walk behind the main stand. Not my favourite experience at football

So Joe Joyce has been Newcastle's Academy Director since 2006. Never knew that. That is tremendous for Joe, who was a great servant to us. He must have seen some tempestuous times at St James, and it's surely a mark of his ability that he has survived it all.

Glaring inaccuracy right at the start:

"It was the first time that Barnsley, who spent many years languishing in the Fourth Division before Clarke’s arrival, had played in the second tier since the mid-60s".

Er..no we weren't. In the mid-60s we were bottom of the Fourth Division dwellers :)

It is interesting to read what happened to footballers after they left us. I never knew that Bobby Flavell at died at the young age of 39. He was a really classy right back, part of the incoming batch of players that included Ronnie Glavin.

I was at that match when Clarke substituted Trevor Aylott - opening match of the season I think? Trevor was furious and stomped off, ripping his shirt off as he went. Clarkie got it in the face. I'm sure that he would have kept to his threat of never picking Aylott again so thank goodness he left and Norman took over. Between them this former Leeds pair turned our club on its head and we should be forever grateful to them for doing that.

I seem to remember Aylott was reinstated after scoring 5 in a reserve game against Middlesboro in which we won 10/0

Allotted and Parker what a wonderful pair, were made to play together, if only we could find another pair like them
