In the 70s 80s and 90s they were everywhere.

Music isn't what it used to be or am I just being sad and old?

    U2
    Coldplay
    Stereophonic
    AC/DC
    Radiohead
    Arctic Monkeys
    Green Day
    Foo Fighters

Those are all I cam think of who are still active and relevant.

As of 2023 and most still going to my knowledge.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - established 1983.

    Metallica - established 1981.

    Madness: established 1979.

    U2 - established 1978.

    The Cure - established 1978.

    Def Leppard - established 1977.

    Iron Maiden - established 1975.

    Blondie: established 1974.

    Sparks: established 1972.

    The Eagles: established 1971.

    Aerosmith - established 1970.

    The Who - established 1964.

The Rolling Stones - established 1962.

The Beach Boys - established 1961. Yep 24/25

    That's just 60s 70s bar the top 2.

Oh and the Drifters of course lol.

I stopped being interested around the mid to late nineties. Stereophonics, Supergrass, Blur, Kula Shaker, Oasis, Paul Weller, Verve at a push Muse, The Datsuns and the Killers.

Then I started looking backwards musically and preferring what had gone before and realised modern music was mostly rehashed from previous era's and genres.

The new stuff by Travis is as good as some of their prime. They were live on Jo Wiley's radio 2 show last night.

    You're old!

Ask yourself this - how did you used to hear about new bands? For me it was reading NME, Melody Maker etc ,Evening session on R1, Peel obviously and mates telling me about new bands.

There are some really good new bands out there if you're willing to put some effort in to finding them - I still love going to small gigs to see bands.

Not heard of any. Will I gain any street cred by saying I quite like Yard Act after finding them by accident on youtube?

Sigur Ros and War on Drugs have been going 30 and 20 years respectively.
