I kept saying to myself during the match 'I bloody love Danny'. Then again, I have backed him right from the beginning, he was manager when I first started supporting the Reds and it seems right him being back. I really worry about that day he will leave us and how upset I will be.

It was a win and it was exciting.

It was not a display to use as an example of how Danny is improving us.

Why was it not better to see that match than watching us pass the ball from right to left along the half way line, then go from left to right 10 yards further back then go right to left another 10 yards further back then either pass it back to the keeper/kennedy to launch or just lose the ball and concede?

From what I saw, we did our fair share of exactly that tonight

Thought the Barnsley tikki tikki was exposed at times tonight with Colchester leaving Ramage and Nyatanga to attempt to pass out from the back having done their homework on the defensive duos ball playing 'skills'. Still bright entertaining game.

I don't understand this view at all, but there are lots that hold it - you can hear in the ground a fair bit of groaning when our defenders pass the ball to one another.

At the start under Hill, it was a philosophy that didn't suit the players, they just weren't good enough. They played too much too deep, and frequently got caught on the ball. The midfielders didn't show for the back 4 enough, and there wasn't enough movement off the ball for the plan to work.

This team tries to play possession football much of the time, but can mix it up too. But more importantly, they have midfield players that want the ball and will receive it under pressure, who play forwards, and who have movement ahead of them. That's exactly how I want to see football played, and there have been periods in recent home games where I've marveled at the stuff we're playing.

I just don't get how people can watch the games, appreciate the good passages of play, but then fail to see that it's all part of the same tactical approach. If the game plan was to play more direct and pick up 2nd balls (the majority of the time), then we wouldn't see the same space and interchange up front that is making us such a threat.

Ne'er mind, it'd be boring if we all saw the games the same way.

Errrrrr.....I find that a somewhat ironic post.

Replace Kennedy with Ramage, whose distribution is far worse than Kennedy, and you have posted what was wrong tonight.

We can pass it, but often we did not. Why not is beyond me.

Our ability to concede stupid goals out of nothing is still there. We got away with it tonight, just about, against a weaker side. On another day, we lose that game. Notts County a perfect example

I agree with that totally, but that's not very often coming about from "messing about with it at the back" as one bloke near me refers to every pass around or behind halfway. Which under Hill, it frequently was.

I don't really think we were ever going to lose tonight, though it should have been more comfortable than it was.

Against Burton and tonight vs Colchester both sides put banks of four or five in the middle to stifle us, but we kept the ball and passed it cajoling them out if position and creating gaps to pass in to. We pass with a plan and a purpose, ok sometimes we have to go backwards or sidewards in order to build to go forward, the key is patience and letting the ball do the work. It's still a side in development, we are gaining an identity, a style, scoring goals, entertAining and gaining points. Get behind em and encourage em and we might just be on to something special.

No, tonight saw us keep the ball patiently before creating chance after chance after chance.

What day's that then? We've put one team to the sword this season. And they were truly woeful. Athersley Rec would have beat Burton.

It's a WIP, I get that. But for me there's still lots to do better. Danny agrees wi me an all

It's not a wind up - Winnall missed a great chance and plenty of times we were one pass from a good opportunity. They scored twice despite never creating a chance - we looked composed and in control throughout. We've conceded twice in 3 games, won all 3 scoring 9 goals. Enjoy it mate. Of course there's improvement but we're a league one side who are improving and have massively.
