me and a mate were talking about this earlier, it's definately in the local area somewhere, as are all the locations in the film. However, he reckons it's somewhere Rotherham way, near Manvers or something I think he said. I read somewhere that it was near Hoyland, which would make sense as this is where the housing estate they used is. Just wondered if anybody could settle this/knew where it actually is.
As you go south on the M1 about half a mile after Junction 36... ...and look to your left you'll see it. Can't see it going north, though. Hoyland, presumably - I've allus been meaning to have a trek up there and see it close up...
P.S. Barry Hines, who wrote the book, is from Hoyland - he based a lot of his locations and characters around there...
cheers again although I actually knew he was from Hoylandas it came up having done a bit of Googling about the location of the ruin
He played for Barnsley too... Read The Blinder, his first book written in (I think) 1966, about a teenager who plays for a team only ever referred to as "the town" - you'll know what team he's talking about!!
Hoyland Lowe stand or Hunting lodge Wasn't itfilmed up there..</p> NRG - 436380 - 400790</p> http://www.follytowers.com/hoyland.html</p> </p> could be wrong like.....S) </p>
its near Hoyland Common.....in the bellwoods Barry Hines taught at Hoyland Kirk Balk school, which is where he wrote Kes....the Bellwood is out near where the old Skiers View pit was its south of J36 at Birdwell quite close to the golf club
from Holand common travel down sheffield rd. under the bridge at Lidget continue for about 500 yards until to arrive at the sign for Harley. Instead of turning left for Harley turn right instead onto a cart trck where it will bring you to the ruin.
The building is called... The lady's Folly - and it's at Tankersley. I think the best way of getting to it is by the little road that runs opposite Harley Road End and goes out towards Tankersley Golf Links.
so which one is it..??? There's a significant ruin adjacent to the farm to the east of the M1 of black lane and a more decrepid one to to the west of the M1 along black lane toward Tankersley church... </p> http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=53.485455&lon=-1.46394&z=18&r=0&src=ggl</p> http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=53.4888&lon=-1.470522&z=18.7&r=0&src=ggl</p>
