Have it on good authority that we've spent at least 500k in transfers this Summer & the likes of Bailey & Treacy won't be cheap. Add Lita in, I'm starting to think Mr Cryne is starting to put some more money in. Maybe a coincidence but at the same time his son is starting to get involved in transfers, too. I'm very appreciative of Mr Cryne but we're seemingly starting to do what it is we've complained about in the Championship for so long - rely on an owner to put money in and signing players on good money for the league they're in. Know we got shut of O'Grady & Steele and cleared the decks but it still feels like we're splashing the cash.
So.....get on the Bus and support the Barnsley revolution ! This is the most exciting season for many years....it's not thy cash.
Am guessing the sale of o'grady cover's transfer fees paid out. Then when you add up the wages of the 22 players that have gone plus season ticket sales it probably goes a long way to covering the rest, but as i say, only a guess
we cant spend > 75% of income on wages anyway, so i wouldnt worry about us getting money pumped in too much
We're working within stricter financial constraints in Division 1 and with a much smaller budget. Perhaps this is one of the reasons we have so many younger, less experienced players in the first team squad. Also, perhaps there's a greater responsibility being shown when spending what monies are available.
You're not taking into account the £4 million drop in revenue though along with the additional staff we've brought in behind the scenes. I hope we're still spending what we, as a club, earn. Just always have a bit of worry when we're signing lots of players.
I don't have any issue with owners putting money into clubs, it's their money after all, provided that they are giving it and not lumping debt onto the club. I don't think we've overspent anyway.
I don't think we will have accepted any less than £500K for Chris O'Grady. Even if that's all we got and your figures are accurate, it just means that we've balanced the books in terms of transfer dealings, so no input required from our owner there. We've released a hell of a lot more players than we've signed, players who were on Championship wages have been replaced by those on League 1 wages. We've a smaller squad on lower wages, so the total wage bill will have been significantly reduced. Turnover is down (potentially, depends on cup runs and how many pay on the day punters we can attract through the gates if we start to do well) but our primary source of income, season ticket sales, has held up pretty well, better than a lot of people were predicting. You've also got to consider we're duty bound to stay within the budget constraints of the league we're playing in. Patrick Cryne has always given/loaned the club money, and maybe he's helped us this year too, but I doubt his input is required nearly as much this season as it has been in the past and I don't think we're splashing that much cash around. Treacy and Bailey have signed from the Championship, but Berry is from non-league, Hemmings from lower league Scottish football, Winnall and Hourihane from League 2, these players will be on a fraction of what we were paying to players last season.
Could you have had a clause in John Stone's contract for when he played for England? you'd have got a decent pay-out for that over the summer if you did and that might have helped fund it
We have obviously massively cut costs. Transfer fees covered by what we got for O'Grady Players wages covered by freeing up wages from COG, Kennedy and Steele and replacing them with largely lower league young lads. Savings made from releasing 18 other professionals. I'd say we are living well within our means.
We can afford it by getting rid of deadwood, and high wage earners... simples. Also 20-players have left! and 10-replacements signed... quality over quantity
'Wilson says changes to budget likely to mean Cranie will be staying at Barnsley. Unless they get offer 'they cant refuse'. What's changed in our budget?
I have also been thinking the same Dys, not that I know owt like, but wouldn`t be suprised if he aint loaned us a little to help us with the large turnover of players that Danny needed.
As I understand it, the delay in transfer dealings was working out if we could ship out the high earners in order to go for plan a. That was to rebuild and "go for it" this season which I believe also meant Patrick would put more money into the club. As for now doing what we've complained about. Normally what happens is that the benefactor lends the club money or borrows money using the clubs assets and therefore putting it in debt and dangering its very existance. Under the SCMP or financial fair play of league one that isn't possible and the only way, as I understand it, for someone to put money into a club is as a gift which is very different. (In my eyes at least). On top of that i don't think we got all the Stones money up front and we sold O'Grady for a profit.
Nowt...we have always lived within our means. Moreover, there are strict financial constraints in league 1 that we have to meet which come with strict penalties if we cross the line.
