That second half performance got me thinking, which players would get into an all time England XI, obviously since you've started watching football?

Steven Gerrard is the best central midfielder I've seen in an England shirt, Ashley Cole is the best left full back and Wayne Rooney is one of the best attackers.

    So why aren't we competeting?

They are competing, they're 2nd in the group with a very good chance of winning it.

Amongst a country that has only been formed a couple of years and two countries that never getout of the Group Stage at the World Cup.

We should have maximum points so far like Holland or Germany would have.

I'd say beating Brazil is competing.

I would agree with the others that we are competing but to answer your question I wouldn't put any of the current crop in an all time 11.

To be honest, that Brazil also the weakest I've ever seen.

Ashley Cole and Stevie G would be considered for an England squad from any era I would suggest. Rooney would get a few friendlies but be cut from the tournament squads. Joe Hart might be a second or 3rd choice keeper in any other era pre 2000s.
