Who actually follow their teams, instead of the team in the town they grew up and live in, or people who live in tarn and claim to be Leeds, Wednesday, Manchester City/Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal fans but never set foot in the city never mind the ground. ?
In my head there are two groups, fans and supporters. Fans just like other clubs and take an interest in what they do. Supporters contribute support by attending games and supporting the club. If anybody claims to be a supporter that never goes to games I slap em down as just being a fan. My wife is from Goole we live in Leeds and she is a Barnsley season ticket supporter as good as you get. She arranges tours of the country to accommodate away games. The away game at Bournmouth lasted a week. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Hate plastics. Annoys me when you get all the plastic Man Utd fans from Barnsley who are sat watching the game on TV using the term 'we' when talking about Man Utd. Cringeworthy. Even worse are the ones born & bred in Barnsley that support Wednesday & Leeds who celebrate when Barnsley lose. Why would anyone want to see their hometown lose? Pillock's
I'm from Hull and lived in Beverley over the last 17 years, apart from a 6 month spell living in Barnsley a few years ago. I don't support Hull lol
Just had snap at work, and their all at it we'll this and we'll that and your ***** and so on. I just can't get involved it's ridiculous, it's like when people who live in Barnsley and don't go to football and hardly watch any at all, start saying we wo **** wont wi, we'll gu darn this year, meaning Barnsley and they couldn't even name a player now Bobbys gone, I love a bit of football banter to pass the day but I just can't see point wi these tossers they ant a clue their not football fans and I just can't understand why they try to come across as though they are
Plastics who 'follow' big clubs do my head in. Anyone can support a winning team from the comfort of an armchair or a nice bar in town.
Think you`ll find we are merely customers, the fan supporter thing only gets acknowledged when the clubs want summat.
It’s like some of the comments made about Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal fans I've heard on the radio recently: - Long suffering Liverpool fans deserved a title win this season. - Arsenal fans have waited too long for a trophy, they deserve something this season. - Man Utd fans are so loyal, they turn out in vast numbers week in week out and they deserve a good season next season. There have been many more on the same theme. These kind of comments make me wonder if a prerequisite of being in the media is that you have to have had a partial lobotomy to remove all sense of reality and perspective where football is concerned.
Unless you have a family connection I don't understand what draws you to a club outside your town. I love going to football and have seen clubs at every level from a poor standard in Nepal to watching Barcelona. I can appreciate quality and can applaud a good pass, or goal but it doesn't get me in my soul. Something happens when I see Barnsley play something magical something caught up in family, in friendships both old and new both here and gone, in pride in my town in love. It's like watchi ng a representation of me and you and the kids we went to school with. It's that the draws me in that even when we are terrible and don't have any players that I identify with I keep coming back. When I hear trite slogans like 'my team my town' etc it pisses me off. I don't need some paid lackey to tell me that. Paul Weller once said of being a mod. "I was born a mod you can bury me I mod'. I feel the same about Barnsley (and being a mod). How can you get that intensity about a place you're not from and a ground you've never been to. What's the point. As someone else said font pretend you're summat you're not what's the point. The silly ****s can support who they want But when they start having a go at other folk from tarn for being 'dingles' and such, that's when the voices start telling me to cleanse the streets.
Re: The silly ****s can support who they want Neither piss me off more than Barnsley supporters who want to change our home colours, our club crest, our stadium and our club name, who also post wind ups on here with staggering regularity.
Yeah i've never lived in Barnsley but supported them all my life. Football clubs shouldn't automatically expect those who live in a place to watch their nearest club. It's upto them through offers, value for money, results on the pitch etc to entice them in.
I am proud to be Barnsley born and bred. The club represents my town, it's people &, therefore, me. That's why I support them. Obviously I prefer it when we play attractive, winning football. However, financial offers, performances, results don't affect that support. I, and thousands of others, stay with our club through the good times and the bad. Which is why I don't move allegiance to someone else if that criteria isn't met by Barnsley, but is by another club. Re: The silly ****s can support who they want One for me this...........always get drawn in to this debate that we have on here (every two weeks?) I'm not that bothered about Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man United or Liverpool fans from Barnsley - I regard these people as quite weak because obviously they need to show that at least one part of their life is successful. Those types are found in every town throughout the country - so the effect of it sort of equals itself out throughout the country This doesn't apply to Sheff United, Wednesday or Leeds..........these teams are in direct competition with Barnsley for football fans that live in the Barnsley District. In my opinion these fans are ashamed of where they come from - DESERTER FANS - That's why they are more likely to walk around town wearing the colours of those teams trying to show that they are not part of Barnsley.
