...I'll ask a silly question!

If I had a router and was sharing my internet connection with a laptop, could I be using the internet connection on my desktop pc at the same time as someone else is using it on their laptop?

Yep, one has an ancient cabled router and it can split the same connection to four different PCs or laptops simultaneously (albeit with slower connections when machines are active at the same time).

Thanks mate (Y). Got a feeling I'm going to have to buy a router as the lad is on about getting a laptop.

Aye. They're t' best thing since sliced bread. No configuring IPs or fannying abart required, just connect the modem to the router, then the PC/laptops to the router and yer away.

Presumably the laptop will wirelessly connect to the router?

If yer router is wireless and the laptop has a wireless card/receiver it should pick it up.
