I really fancy getting one, but is it possible to get them to work on Orange, or do Apple updates then kill your phone if you tamper with the original settings in any way? I've heard that if you buy one in France that they are not locked to a network, does that mean I can just stick my Orange SIM in and hey presto it works straight away? Any advice on getting one, and making it work on Orange much appreciated.

    Cheers.

I have an unlocked 2g one for sale that I was using on Orange. (Just bought a 3g one on O2). An unlocked 3g one is about £450 from Belgium/Italy.

The last Apple update i did on the 2g didn't relock it but if it does there is a simple application that unocks it again at the push of a button.

The 2g works really well on Orange as they seem to have a good Edge network coverage (2.5g - Something the other networks don't have apart from O2 in places). No good for watching videos unless you are in a wifi hotspot but great for read web pages and emails.
