I'll go for Wroe and Kay.
Absolutely awful last night. Once Ritchie changed it........ well you know the rest.

    was that our midfield???

ok, I'll name an absolutely awful one - McPhail and Shuker. THEY'RE the constants in this s*** midfield of ours.

But it's good to see someone else recognising we have a midfield problem.

    Erm ...

Shuker & McPhail were in the excellent midfield performance of the last 60 minutes ... Kay wasn't.

McPhail looked like our best footballer last night.
His retention of the ball & intricate passing were absolutely brilliant.

Kay & Wroe in the middle was a disaster.

Seriously, the worst midfield I can think of...

DONOVAN's in, he was the worst midfielder I've ever seen. Cheers Spackers.

Actually, just perm any of Spackman's midfields. I can't say Sand was s***, he only played 4 games. A terrible buy tho, at that price. Alex Neil was a close 2nd to everything (but so is Shuker). McClare flattered to deceive. Tinkler was either quite domineering or an injury prone overpaid waste of space. Ditto Van Der Laan. Barnyard was a waste of time in his last 2 seasons as Barker ran up and down the wing past him. As was Lumsden, once we'd lashed £350k on him (we were all wrong there). And Gorre's 1st season - christ on a bike, thank god he was injured most of the time, cos he was sh*te when he played.

And so it goes on. And I'm just waiting for someone to mention Gary Jones (sent off last nite, btw)

    Against footballing sides

McPhail and Burns will play well. our problem is we need to get out of this pub league before we get chance to play our stuff. Brentford and Swansea will, like most League 1 sides, try and turn the game into a slog.

more importantly, where the f.ck was my phone call?

Let's not mention the word "Burns"

cos most ppl on here haven't a clue what he does!

I guess if McPhail could run, HE'D have bagged that 2nd goal.

Which is why might not a 3-5-2 system suit us better ? Gives Maccy-P the protection he needs, allows Boins to get forward.

I received texts. None of which mentioned a certain Miss Sandy and her 'Superstars'

    I'm also leaning towards a 3-5-2 formation.
If Kell is indeed the combative midfielder we have been waiting for ... then he could release McPhail & Burns to do some damage.

I have been a fierce critic of Burns.
I just don't understand his purpose in the team.
If he played like that regularly I would shut my gob.

    I daren't phone SM.
Shukes was playing well - so I just couldn't do it.

    Football is ****.

    Guess?
    Did you see the game?

McPhail was excellent when he played in the middle ... and Burns, the player I have given loads of stick to, was all over the pitch - I thought he was like Jay (no idea where the box is) ... but he looked like a player last night.

After the 1st half an hour I couldn't fault them last night.

    No, I wasn't there...

but it's an interesting spin on McP. I guess you must like the fella (ooh err). I heard most of the game on commentary and he was getting a right slating for being s*** out left. INstead you come more at the "Wroe and Kay were s*** in middle" angle.

which may well be true. But by the sounds of it, as Robbie held the left together while McP dawdled, we coulda been about 7 down.

and I can't say McP got much of a mention in centre. He's certainly not far enough up park to set owt up. Mind, Shuker had a good game they said.

also, your "McP will do well against passing sides" theory. Commentators last nite were wondering WHY, in a passing game, McP couldn't get into game.

    anyway, eye of beholder, etc.

    RE: No, I wasn't there...

It wasn't difficult to see where the quality was last night.
I'll make this really simple ... and I'm honestly not patronising you here:

    (1) Wroe & Kay could not hold onto the ball for more than 3 seconds. They either lost it or gave it away. We were then under pressure.
    (2) McPhail moves into the middle, controls the ball, gets into space, keeps possession ... and the rest of the team start playing.

He is not a marauding midfielder who plays in the hole like Scholes, Aimar or even, dare I say it, Neil Redfearn ... he retains the ball, brings people into the game - and is the best passer I've seen at Oakwell in many years.

He's not flashy, so the commentators won't be saying he's killing the opposition ... but he was our most important player last night.

And no - I'm not really keen on him or Burns.
I just watched the game with open eyes.

A withering final comment there. Nicely done.

Unfortunately the many many brain donors on here (not TMFDM afore he starts) refuse to acknowledge that McP can be of any use to us.
