Had an ongoing saga with BT that resulted in our landline being off for 2 months, and it also knocked the Broadband (with Orange) off for 2 weeks... something to do with the exchange and crossed wires. Even though BT acknowledge the fact that the fault was theirs, they refuse to pay any compensation, other than the line rental charge for the time it was off. In the time it's been off we've incurred costs for Using mobiles more often Having to buy a dongle to facilitate work from home (internet access) BT argue that even though it is their fault that our service was lost, we are Orange customers, and so they owe us nothing. So, basically we're gonna tell them to stuff it. What would have cost them £50, to keep customers happy, (we're only asking for what we've actually incurred) is more than they can be bothered with. So, where do we go next for landline provision? Any good deals out there?
Virgin Media have good deals for new customers or even old customers if you're willing to phone up every so often asking the questions. Been with them since Yorkshire Cable & Telewest days and never had a problem with internet connection. Had a couple of blips with the phone but they easily sorted that out.
Didn't you say that the kids wanted sky? Why not get a sky phone, broadband and basic TV package? Won't cost the earth.
Same as Simon we are with VM and have been since Telewest. Got landline, tv and internet (plus mobile which for some reason is separate). Need to get on to them now and again to improve your deal cos like most companies they only offer deals to new customers. I usually threaten to leave and they soon see sense, but you need to talk to sales and not the helpline people because they are limited in what they can offer.
http://www.plus.net/ I've been on that for ages since I cancelled my Sky. Can't fault it although I do know that Guest 42 had some trouble with it a while ago after leaving her router turned off for 4 months!
Re: I'm with plusnet, pretty good but they are owned by bt Virgin for everything. Don't really need the landline though but I keep it anyway. Best things about Virgin are the broadband and the free ESPN, worst thing is that you can't get Scuzz.
Re: I'm with plusnet, pretty good but they are owned by bt I'm on Plusnet after having had nothing but trouble from Talk Talk.
With Virgin for phone and broadband, just been upgraded for free to 60mbps. You do have to call them occasionally....I was seeing deals for new customers that were offering 20mbps for less than I was paying for 10mps, I was happy with the speed but wanted a reduction in price. They said they couldn't do that, could only change my plan if I took something else out....they said if they gave me 20mbps they could drop my bill by £5 a month! So I wanted what I had for £5 less, which they wouldn't do, but they'd give me a better service for £5 less! I figure it's how there systems are set up. I'm with Sky for TV though, personal choice based on what channels I get that I wouldn't with Virgin, but that gives me some negotiating power with Sky in that I can threaten to leave - last year my Sky+box bust and they would have asked for £80 call-out, but I think they check postcode and seeing I'm in a Virgin Media area they'll have a low retention if they enforce charges,
