Mick McCarthy Played & managed the Republic of Ireland to two World Cup Quarter Finals. There may have been more talented players, but none that I can think of who've reached the dizzy heights Mick managed to do.
RE: 1990 in Italy Ah well been only 9 at the time i can only remember England losing to the Gerrys on pens & not wanting to go to school the next day incase i got lynched as id got Germany in the class sweep
Steve "Kalamazzoo" Mokone Barnsleys first coloured footballer. Pele said he was the greatest footballer ever to come out of the continent of Africa. (I think he may have said the same about Eric Tinkler). He his one of the very few footballers to have had a feature film made of his footballing days and after his carear was finished did had a long stretch in USA Prison system. Incidently he was arrested while in England for walking round the streets with a Lion Cub on a lead. I'm not sure if this was in Barnsley , Cardiff or Coventry but it led to his departure from the country. Anybody else heard this story.
No mention of the Tiger though ..... Not really sure why he didn't get a league game at Barnsley. Following on from his debut in the League cup he scored a brace for the reserves but by the next Saturday was gone
Played a single League Cup game in 1960 I've got a great picture of him in his Inter Milan strip, also had a spell at Benfica, Cardiff and Coventry.
RE: Played a single League Cup game in 1960 Love to see the picture Be a great film - do you have the bok?
I've got the cinema trailer for the film ... On my PC. Unfortunately its in Dutch, "Die Swartze Meteor" is its name if it ever makes its way onto late night TV
