Currently polarising into 2 camps as I see it :- Worthy types who think that as soon as the 'R' word is used that's it - case closed, and are using it to extoll their own fascist view. One dumb dumb claimed the 'Anti PC Brigade' were all 'closet racists'. So nice sweeping generalisation about a group of people that he wouldn't be able to specify, he just obviously thinks anyone who doesn't share his oh so enlightened view is a BNP neanderthal.

Then we have the mongs who seem to think that Asian taxi drivers are somehow lesser humans than everyone else and a good old bit of racist abuse never did anyone any harm.

But nowt sparks the bbs off like a racism topic. They love it love it love it.

Vanessa Paradis didn't know what she was starting

Never done a runner from a taxi myself. But I once did one from a curry house when I was lathered.

Felt so guilty that I went back the next day and put the money through the letter box

Its worth remembering that those three lads are perhaps not the brightest

Only done a runner from a restaraunt - one of us ( not me ) got nicked so we had to pay up. Pointless exercise.

Think it would be much safer if we all waited for the facts to come out. I can't fathom how they've got collared - they're hardly the UK's most famous footballers. It's like when that lad got arrested for the Ipswich Prostitute murders - he'd been strung up on here - then it turned out it was someone else. Most bbs contributors seem to share brain capacity with fare dodging footballers.

I hope it's nowt more than a storm in a teacup...

Most of my posts have been very much hypothetical.

What's made my day is the lectures the "PC brigade" have been receiving about the presumption of innocence by people who would normally be baying for blood if it were anyone other than an Asian taxi-driver who'd had a kicking by anyone other than a Barnsley player.

My mind is quite open - I'd like to believe we don't have players who would do such a thing (especially not our better players 'cos then they couldn't play no more!) and I hope it isn't true. I think more would've been made of it by now were there any real substance to it all. However a lot of people on here have made up their mind - innocent - and have, seemingly, only come to that judgement 'cos the R word has been used.

And let's be right Dirk, you know, and I know, that a lot of the Anti-PC brigade on here are very much out of the closet racists...

There's a distinction between some that are quite obviously racist and perfect types like me.....

I hope it's all nonsense, I really do. If not, then I think we can start debating if they should play for us again etc.

    I agree...

Saying that though, mate, it's really pissed me off the lists of reasons people have been touting why it's acceptable to kick the **** out of an Asian taxi-driver, or anyone come to that matter. Whether the lads have done it or not or whether there was even an incident is irrelevant the whole situation has brought out some nasty opinions...

Again, you are the scales, finely and equally balanced, a voice of reason and sanity on a crazy BBS...

Or summat like that, it's still quite early in the day for me!

    :D

    Just the 2 camps then?

Cause I've seen plenty of comments that don't fit into either

RE: Vanessa Paradis didn't know what she was starting

Went on a works night out and one guy decided to do a runner from the restaurant. Not the brightest of lads seeing as there were about 30 of us there, so all he was really doing was making a runner from contributing to the bill and the rest of us had to put his share in. needless to say he wasn't the most popular person back at work!

So where are you going to categorise me then? I abhor racism and political correctness equally.

    Likewise...

My point was that it isn't political correctness to consider the possibility that, hypothetically speaking, such incidents MAY have a racist element to them. It certainly isn't political correctness that has prompted people on this board to challenge the lists of reasons that seem to imply it's OK to kick the **** out of a taxi-driver simply 'cos he's Asian - the same people have challenged, in the past, reasons why it's acceptable to kick the **** out of anyone.

I haven't made any judgement of the players whatsoever and I don't think I've read a single post where anyone has tried to make out they're guilty. I have read posts, though, that have tried to justify what is alleged to have happened simply 'cos the victim is Asian and has alleged a racist element to the attack. That to me indicates at best, an attitude of complete indifference to the right of a person to make his or her living free from the fear of attack and, at worst, that point plus a completely racist, bigotted view of the world.

    P.S.

I don't consider myself to be politically correct, some of the people who post on here with similar views to me I know personally and they're not exactly politically correct.

I use the term PC Brigade and Anti-PC Brigade 'cos generally there are two, fairly polarised sides, to arguments like this and it just makes things easier.

That reminds me of the scene in Everybody Hates Chris, where he young chris rock is having a fight with the white kid to the tune of Ebony and Ivory.
