Burns last full game was against Tranmere away, Hassells was against Colchester which we both won and kept a cleansheet...</p> I'm going for Hassell, defence has looked rubbish and dis organised since he got injured. Against Colchester and Tranmere he won everything in the air and the defence looked very organised...</p> Against Brentford we looked very unorganised and Brentford walked straight through our defence..</p> Since Burns has left Howard and Kay have done well, and both scored.</p>
duno why everone is saying hassell.... we have had plenty of cover at right back, but the same cant be said about centre midfield - burns was the linchpin of the team and we do miss him dearly. hassell??? dont make me laugh - he never played as big a part in games than burns did. FACT.
I beg to differ. Hassell has been POY so far.We have badly missed him.I'm not saying we have not missed Burns either.
well i think your wrong as well. burns was our player of the season then following him i would say colgan - im not a big fan of hassell at all, but i do admit he has had a good season. but from my point of view we have missed burns more than hassell
me mate, eric..... Just a couple of nights ago... he had a dinner with Nick Mandic, who is the brother of Bernie Mandic, Kewell's agent who made a couple of mil from that leeds/liver deal... He said that they (being the mandic bros) placed Jacob with wisla. Michael Thwaites, the other aussie who is at wisla, has had problems starting at wisla because of his contractual stuff in rumania (?). I thought that Thwaites was a factor in Jacob's move to wisla... but it seems that Jacob contacted the Mandic bros and asked them how he could he move higher and get into the view of Guus. It is Jacob's throw of the dice. He is a good bloke and did well for us.. he was happy living near leeds with his family... good luck, Jacob. well done barnsley and well done andy ritchie..
So everybody that's slagged Ritchie & the club over Burns' move Just what, realistically, COULD they have done if that's all correct then ?
RE: So everybody that's slagged Ritchie & the club over Burns' move "Nar then Jacob, you're contracted to Barnsley till the end of the season and at such an important stage we cannot afford to let you go."</p> Just a thought like.</p>
just life, innit.. jacob is not from the dale. he'll go home and finish in sydney for his last couple of years. he's bin a good pro who has not been to the top but has done a good job and made a good living.. no bad men, here.. chase the dream, jacob. and then do something new at thirty-five knowing that you couldn't have tried harder in your 'main' life. top marks to everybody... you wouldn't want to stand in his way..... that wouldn't be right.
RE: So everybody that's slagged Ritchie & the club over Burns' move I said realistically. </p> Let's have a pissed off laiker who's out of contract at season's end. Dead reight.</p>
some realism for you then "Jacob, the world cup is just a few short months away, you havent been picked for a single qualification match or even a friendly. You've not even been a squad member when Australia have been short on midfielders, what makes you think that you will suddenly get picked for the world cup side? </p> You're a good player Jacob, you're doing a fantastic job here at Barnsley and with you in our midfield we stand a very real chance of promotion this season. Promotion that will mean you playing at a higher level here in England next season on more money. Realistically it's too late for you to get into the Australian World Cup side this summer, their boss will already know his team and the backups have all figured in friendlies recently. You havent, I hate to sound hard but it isn't going to happen Jacob, maybe if this was December you'd have time but you don't.</p> Stay here at Barnsley, get your head down and look forward to a possible promotion with us and the chance to represent your country in two years at the Oceania Nations Cup. You've just become a dad, you have a wonderful wife here in england and a beautiful baby boy, do you really think that now is the best time to up sticks and move to Poland?"</p>
That surely sums up what should have happened. AR..Burns wants to go Gordy, the daft **** thinks he'll get into the aussie world cup squad if he laiks for this polish outfit.GS..Daft bugger, let the chump go, thats 2 grand a week off the wage bill.AR..Yes gaffer, we have always got NIcky Wroe.
what is? do you think jacob realistically stands a chance at getting in the australian team which has to be announced in less than 2 months time despite the fact that he hasnt figured in a single friendly in the run up to the competition?</p> do you agree that shortly after the birth of a child is maybe not the best time to move your family to poland where they will be alone?</p> Dont you think that if he stayed with us and got promotion then he would stand a better chance of getting in the international side in two years than as a squad player in poland?</p> And don't you think that the manager would be being fair to point these things out to him? (maybe he did, who knows)</p>
you wouldn't swallow that, would you... get behind them.. and their dreams.. Scott Flinders, Anth Kay, Neil Austin .... all the local lads.. Patrick's dream of a Barnsley team made up of barnsley lads.. I'd rather we were Bolton Wanderers. B*ll*cks i would...
RE: what is? "(maybe he did, who knows)" Nail on the head there pal. You've been yabbering on about ballax. I'm sure Burns' agent has been whispering the exact opposite in his ear. "Get tha sen off to Poland lad there will be a ton of cash and an outside chance of a world cup spot"
would i swallow the truth? yeah i would. id go hang on he's right, australia have shown no interest in me and with about 8 weeks to go will they announce their squad that isnt going to change. oh aye and i have a baby too which i'll have to leave behind if i go to poland.
RE: what is? Whether he does or not is irrelevant. Andy Ritchie and the club were faced with a first team player who wanted to leave. And it's a sure bet the rest of the squad were aware of the situation.</p> As vital as he was, they have to make a decision based on what they see there and then, and what they anticipate will be in the long term interests of the entire club. It's not a "Do as tha told" situation. It's as much about managing people these days as much as some on here would like it to be the club giving orders out which must be obeyed. it's 2006 not 1956.</p> Hignett/Ward/Hirst - they've all gone when fans wanted them to stay. Bigger clubs than Barnsley lose players. Doesn't mean we have to be happy about it, but a dose of realism never hurts.</p>
RE: would i swallow the truth? Jacob is an athlete, a professional footballer. He wouldn't be any good at our level if he didn't think that he was as good as Josip Skoko, Vince Grella, Scott Chipperfield. I don't think that he will make it.... but you have got to admire a bloke that backs himself and shoots for the big time. He knows that he is a long shot... but hey.. go for it... this is the script for movie and you are the bloke in a grey suit and glasses who is saying, "you have got to realise that you are just not good enough"
