I don't think I'd be very well suited to being a lecturer i hate being in lectures as it is (find my course pretty uninspiring), so can't see myself having a career in the area. However, I am hoping to go back to uni in a few years to do a different course, although it'll be a completely different experience being a bit older and going from home rather than in halls or such like
Associate lecturing? What are your opinions? AM in discussions with a local uni to do some associate lecturing work for them. Not sure about terms & conditions yet, and would be in tandem to current job. Is it a good option?
No none at all - despite the fact that i'm still at work, and do get very stressed at times, ultimately i love my job, and get well rewarded in more ways than financially (foreign visits, new IT kit, conferences, help with publishing, even positive feedback from students!).
RE: Oh..and where/what do you lecture on? nt BA (Hons) Tourism Management and BA (Hons) Entertainment Management@ Leeds Met.

RE: Associate lecturing? Financially it can be, but you need to be clear that if you are preparing a two hour class that has a lecture and workshop component it will take 4-8 hours prep time easily. So your £35 per hour for the delivery is actually a lot less when you look at the bigger picture. that said, a few years backI did it in tandem with another job and was raking it in - didn't have much of a life though.
Don't leave it too late fees are probably going up again to between £6,000 and £10,000 per year depending on course as from 2009/2010. http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/bbs/fo...light=university fees&highlightmode=1#M382446
Decisions.... Done guest lecturing (where my work takes the cash - easy - can prepare at work, and delivery not been a prob..) My hubby is a lecturer - and he often disappears for weeks on end (physically & mentally - when he's in marking mode) and it is a total nightmare - 2 kids in the house & there just aren't enough hours in the day. The money looks good & I could fit it in, but I don't want to turn into my husband mark II !!
Blimey, that's close The work I'm doing is BA / Bsc Events Management/ Sports Development/ Leisure & Tourism at various unis. Likely to link into Sheff Hallam Uni for associate terms. Hudds Uni turned me down, but have done quite a bit at LMU in the past.
wish I was, life of bloody Riley my two children areat uni and both spend virtually every night in the pub whilst poor old dad has to sitat homebeing a saddo on the internet cos he's too skint to go out.

Got a 2.1 in law from Leeds Met and am considering doing a MA so that I can do some lecturing. Looks like an enjoyable career. Getting a bit bored with my current office based career.
Applied to Hallam, York, Liverpool and Brighton to do a Bachelor of Education Degree...had one interview at Hallam, should find out next week if i'm in, that's my 1st choice! (blaze)
