Not getting to see BFC live very often and only catching glimpses on tv, obviously my knowledge of how the team is performing is limited. But one thing to me is blatantly clear is that the defence needs tightening up. I don't want to be too critical but in the twice I've attended Oakwell lately (Hull last season and Birmingham this season) Kennedy seemed to be a bit of a weak link at full back. Maybe replacing him with a tougher full back would be a good start. Who would you like to see brought in?
Could Nyatanga be the left back we need? Or maybe play him or M'Voto at centre half and move Ramage to left back? Wilson is well known for giving youth a chance, so maybe RNL moves up the pecking order? I'm sure he will see that TK is way out of his depth.....and he'll end up out on loan, as we will not be able to sell him as he's on a 2 year deal signed by Flicker in June 2013......bad bit of business.
No, I don't watch enough of other teams to know these days. I hope Danny has the ideas and contacts to make summat happen. We can't persist with Perkins/Dawson/Tutu
Danny's greatest talent has always been getting the best out of players who have previously looked ordinary. That's not to say he's no good in the transfer market, he brought some of the greatest talent we've ever had to the club, but he stands out above other managers by being able to work with what he's got. We were almost relegated in the 93-94 season. We spent the majority of the time in the bottom 3. Viv Anderson left in the summer and Danny was installed as manager. His transfer budget was zero. He didn't sign a single player or bring in a loan player prior to or during the entire 94-95 season. We finished 6th and tore many teams apart. We were as good as any team in the league and probably only failed to win promotion due to the size of the squad. I'm not suggesting that is going to happen again, but we'll not need as many players as people think because Danny knows how to work to a budget and knows how to get the best out of what's available. Expect some players who you previously thought were rubbish to begin to shine.
I think in the short term we have to work with what we have, certainly until January. Cranie and Jean Ives are a liability in the centre, likewise Kennedy at left back. As much as I want these lads to do well, I can't see what Danny can do to make them simply better footballers. A left back is essential in January, obviously Bobby to right back and then make the most of what we have in the middle. Move Cranie out and off the wage bill in January, maybe even get a modest fee from Sheff U, Donny or the like. Free up some funds and look to replace, Wiseman I believe has a future at Oakwell and with Bobby can offer some versatility in the back line. Jean Ives, I really don't know. When he came, we said at last we have someone to win the headers, but we've still shipped a ton of goals. Danny would love to go 3-5-2, I'm sure, but can we risk it? I don't think we have a good championship squad but just maybe enough to survive if they are utilised properly. Cywka and Mellis will thrive under Danny I'm sure.
Replacement left back as priority. Assess the central defenders something is not quite right there. Look at getting a defensive midfielder who can actually tackle (Digby?) . I'd say the first task is to get rid of between 5 and 10 players and give the younger players a run of games. Though getting rid may not be that easy.
Where ever he's been he's had an out and out goalscorer. Charlie Austin being one example. I expect him to be knocking on Patricks door wanting to recruit one in Jan.
Re: Where ever he's been If so, then we MUST have to reduce squad by quite a few.......McNulty, Dagnall, Dawson, Etuhu, TK (although very little cover here)......this also provides some breathing space for the younger players.
I dont believe he'll have any money to bring anyone in. At least not without some wheeling and dealing.
A tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor, rich man, poor man, beggarman, thief, Butcher, baker, candlestick maker, I'll be none of these. Chorus: I'll be a singer, not a church-bell ringer, I'll use my voice to carry the load, I'll tell the story, heartfelt or carefree, and share a song along the road. I'll change direction and risk rejection, I'll travel far and travel wide, An endless highway, I'm going my way, a loving friend close by my side. There will be hard years but put aside fears, friends are for loving good times or bad, I'll think on new ways, remember old days, but my resolve is ironclad. I'm poor in stipends but rich in good friends, I will not beg, nor will I thieve, I'm not a wastrel, I am a minstrel, my song will stay though I must leave.
First of all I'd guess ALL the players at our club, including those currently out on loan, will have the slate wiped clean and be able to start afresh with the new boss. It's up to them to show Danny Wilson they want to be a part of this new chapter in our history. If they don't, they'll be moved on, whether it's next month, or in the Summer. Personally, I don't think there'll be much inwards movement during the January transfer window, with the possible acquisition of a back up goalkeeper to Luke Steele.
Re: First of all Agree with that I'm expecting a very similar set up to the away games at Burnley and Brighton for the Leeds trip. Once he's appraised the squad, then we'll most likely see changes. I do think we've got some good players at the club, just far too many in number and several have been played out of position with considerably formation changes from one game to the next. Better drilled, better encouragement and consistency and fairness and there is enough quality in this squad to beat the drop when you look at the teams we're up against.
The mid field needs sorting. It neither creates for the strikers or protects the defense. Yeovil's mid field ran straight through us at will.
