Images in PDFs!! The mind boggles. How cheapskate are we trying to be. Is Rob off? You wouldnt hardly know the season was upon us and now you can hardy tell its started. Whats happening? (N)
Eh? dont understand that complaint - what is wrong with images in pdf format - if that is the case. I hadnt noticed that one
RE: Eh? they should have just had the pictures displayed! Whay put one format inside another when the original format will just display on the web site? Its bonkers. Say if i didnt have adobe on my machine. I would have had to install adobve just to look at them. As it is i opened one and cannot be bothered with the rest. They are cruddy images anyway and the overhead of having to open Adobe just aint worth it.
Found them now and completely agree I hadnt seen the page you referred to. The picture quality is appalling, nothing to do with them being pdf. and they should be displayed in the frame as you suggest. You can do that with pdf, but jpeg or gif is the normal way this is done. Nothing to do with cost this, just must be someone who doesnt know how to do it properly, ie Rob has no backup
Where have you been for the past week or so, Omen? This particular subject has been done to death on here during that time. Put simply - Rob (Knowles) got married and is currently on a fortnight's honeymoon (back tomorrow). Yes, ideally the club would have an able deputy for Rob, to professionally update the official site whilst he's away. However, we all know that cost-cutting has taken place at Oakwell and that money is at a premium down there. People seem to forget that when Ridsdale took charge, a projected loss of around £1million was forecast for the last financial year (to May 2005) under their 3-year plan. Given all the goings-on last November and December, I suspect that figure is probably the best case scenario. Gordon Shepherd has made it clear that he intends the club to be self-sufficient financially and not constantly rely on the deep pockets of Patrick Cryne. His objective will take time of course - and in the meanwhile I think we as fans need to decide what the priority is... a top-notch all-singing official website (to go along with a pristine stadium, modern electronic scoreboard and cheap pies!) or a successful team on the pitch, financed by the income that the club is currently making. What was it that Mr Micawber said about expenditure exceeding income etc.,? I know what priority I'd choose!
RE: Where have you been for the past week or so, Omen? I agree entirely "Guest", the priority has to be to work within our budget, BUT I think we can expect the HEAD OF MEDIA not to arrange his wedding/honeymoon to coincide with the start of the season. As I have said before other members of BFC staff have to do it! The present "quality" of the web site has nothing to do with budget, we should not need to have a "stand in" at this stage of the season!
Fair comment! But how do we know that the reason Rob got married at this stage of the year was because his wife couldn't get time off her work earlier/later? I accept it's not an ideal time (in a footballing environment) for the Head of Media to be away from the office - but I think it's a bit harsh for us (or the club for that matter) to expect him NOT to go on honeymoon at a time that is obviously convenient for him and his missis. The guy is only human after all, but there again Barnsley fans are noted for their harshness! Just ask Colgan, Nicky Wroe etc.,! My main point is though, that I think we should live with the situation at Oakwell at the moment, and give Shepherd the time and opportunity to get things back on a financial footing. Just remember the club started slipping into the mire 4 years ago, things gradually got worse and worse - and you don't rectify that in a few short months, even allowing for Cryne's generosity. Yes, things aren't 100% ideal at Oakwell at present - but it's what the team produces on the pitch that REALLY matters, isn't it?
OK. Sorry! It's just that there seems to have been more moaning on here recently than comment/praise about the team's performance last Saturday. Heaven forbid what it will be like if the Reds lose tonight! However, having had a look at the photos on the official site, I have to say they do look somewhat amateurish. I guess the office staff down there are doing their best under the circumstances, but it may have been wiser to leave the pictures until Rob got back. Best of intentions and all that...
