League game against Chelsea. I think we drew 1-1 and had Cooper sent off. I seem to think Currie was sent off too and one of the Rentboys too? It was at this game that some dirty Chelsea git stamped on Thomas's leg. That season that Chelsea side accumulated record points but we beat them in the FA Cup 4-0 :D

Whilst on about dirty sides i can also remember two games when i was a nipper and both were against Crewe. First one was in 74/75 when i think they had two players sent off, and then in 76/77 they were right dirty Barstewards when Les Harris was supersub for the evening and scored. As the players walked up the tunnel the regulars that stood on the north side were literally pulling clumps of hair from out of the Crewe player's heads.

    Graham Roberts

Some time later Masterbates was moaning in the paper how it was not fair that chelski had lost to lower league teams like Barnsley...we were in the same league at the time.

    RE: Graham Roberts

So it was the Cup game he got done in? Blimey!, the brandy is shrinking mi brain :)S) That Cup game was brilliant. They had quite a following up for that one too - no doubt expecting a win methinks? And then we played those two belters against Stoke in the next round, followed by 32,000 against Everton. That Chelsea victory is very similar to when we stuffed West Ham 4-1 in the FA Cup when Rambo got a hat trick. At half-time loads of their fans could be seen walking rather briskly up the Queens' Ground car park. Cue Barnsley taunts of "Maybe it's because i'm a Londoner" on the North Terrace. Happy days indeed! Always good to send the big boys home with a flea in their ear - especially if they were from London.

He was a right hard bar steward was Thomas. Built like a tank and never shy of getting into a tackle. I've never had much time for Chelsea since then.

RE: Darren Wood ? Peter Nicholas ?

I did hear Darren Woods name mentioned once. And with regards to that i once attended a reserves game when a certain Mr Wood was playing for the opposition a few years later and the late Gavin Talbot shouted him over and questioned him about the incident with Thomas. When he questioned the chap concerned he was a bit flippant but methinks Gavin struck a nerve with the fat cant! He didn't want to hang around anyway. Now that darren Wood has been mentioned that name certainly is the one!!! :) I think it was the same game that John Deehan was playing in the reserves after a certain altercation with Mal Shotton on the team coach prior to the Sheff Utd, and Mr Talbot tried to engage Deehan in a witty conversation but Deehan's response was mainly "Eh? What? Don't know what you're on about mate"

I can 100% guarantee it was Wood...

    That did him.

I was in the physios room after the match and Gwynn had to held down because he wanted to take, shall we say, retribution with Mr Wood.

I was only about 10 at the time but its a site that I'll take to my grave.

Me thinks Gwynn might not have got far with half a leg no matter how big it was.

Thomas - Probably my favourite ever BFC player ever.
