Ian Banks

    :D

I vote for Glavin but recently viewed footage has made me remember just how good Banks was.

Honestly though, Banks does not get the credit he deserves.

Almost a goal every four games for us during his first spell, mostly absolute corkers and a fantastic passer of the ball. Played almost 100 games for Leicester in the top flight

Trouble was he was home grown

I remember well the abuse he used to get when I used to go and stand in the Brewery stand.
He could do no right in the eyes of a sizable minority of morons.... Some things never change

I reckon though that he was as good a passer and had a better shot than Beckham - maybe he work rate not as good but he was a quality player.

The great thing about the Barnsley team he first played in was balance good defence, good mixed midfield and a pair of decent strikers, who had the luxury of knowing that the midfield could be relied on to pop a goal in most games

    We even had

'Fans' sat near my late Father & I who claimed that Ronnie Glavin wasn't fit to lace Graham Pugh's boots AND MEANT IT !!! Some people simply weren't prepared to allow players a settling in period . They instantly made up their minds that the new players weren't good enough ( sometimes after just one game ) and their egos were that inflated it wouldn't allow them to admit that they'd got something wrong .
Thank goodness we don't have people like that nowadays . :)

    Interesting Banks anecdotes

Was once sent off in 0 secs warming up to come on.

I think Gary Lineker once said of him "the best english midfielder never to get a cap"

Who has seen Glavin in the flesh on here?

Just a thought - I started going in 78/79 and at 8,9,10 when he played for us probably didn't appreciate his skill as much - watching the videos I didn't realise how good he was - passing , dribbling etc . That's probably why I'd just give Redfearn the vote - I appreciated his talents more and could appreciate more what he did for the team
