Why Barnsley is in a strong position with Stones but this deal will show the way the club are going forward.

I think the club are in a great position with stones because he’s got year left on his contract. I think the contract he signed in the summer runs to 2015 and if the club are quick they could extend that if they want to until maybe 2016 plus. He’s an English Football and that along with the word talent means he’s worth a lot of money. There’s a 6+5 rule in the premier league or is that champions league but anyway this means club are wanting English talent at young age. I don’t buy all this he’s inexperienced. The guys a quick learner. When Barnsley played Middlesbrough he got beat once by their tricky striker but that was it, he wasn’t getting by again. He’s also played in a few local derbies and came through when ok.
From the summer onwards the u21’s will be using a new batch of players because there tournament’s this summer and a lot of the players that currently play for the u21’s will be too old. If Stones can keep playing well he’s got a chance to play in that team and if he does then his value will go up a lot. Will clubs really want to wait to see this happen or will they be eager to jump in and buy the guy for what could be a cheap price of maybe 3/4/5 million pound say because if he gets to be an u21 regular then he could be worth 5/6/7 million.
This very morning when I went and had a look on this forum I read the thread that was started about the Sheffield star. I read in that thread that we should sell him or a huge range or issues. Some saying we need to so we can make a profit. Rubbish, we’ve got players at this club earning money every week for nothing. Edwards Etuhu, Hassell, Collins, Mido’s, done it too. Not having ago at any of these five but they aren’t good enough or are always injured.
Why do I think this deal’s massive to the future of Barnsley Football Club?
Well as I and a few have been saying the clubs got a great batch of players coming through that all could be just like stones. Flitcorft mentioned this the other day in his first press conference. He said it excited him to think he could be working and helping the likes of Clark, Rose, Digby, RNL.
If I was going to put my head on the chopping block I would say that Barnsley will be in this position again for sure. I think Digbys contract runs to 2016 or have I got that wrong. Anyway this may be in 12 month, 18 month or 24 month. Clark, Rose, RNL, contract end in the summer and its massive that the club sort these ASAP. Let’s lose the 4 in the paragraph above and get the younger players on long contract very soon. There the future of our club not them lot who are simply not good enough or are always injured.

Also just a little point. It was good to see the local based players at the u18 game on Tuesday night. Perkins Steele and O’Brien. Three players who really like been at this club. Good to see.

Good post. The youth team has to be the future of the club. Like it used to be. That said if we got 2.5 million and a 12 month loan back it would be hard to refuse.

if the don's doing the negotiations stones could be contracted to the next millenium and we would still get peanuts

so why did you feel the need to bring hassel and a few others into it then ? you could have posted all that without the needless digs and still got your point across, but you just cant help having sly little digs, grow up sunshine

It would but the deal would have to be beneficial for Stones and the club must get a sell on clause. I will mention the name, Victor Moses. He plays in a different position but he picked the right club and got a move to a big club and i think stones could do that.
