Offer tougher sanctions on Putin and his Russia but stand back and watch Israel murdering hundreds of Palestinians?

It makes me sick, it's as if every nation can't do enough for Israel. Poor Palestinians have virtually no back up or support because they know there not only fighting the Israelites but it's about every other army in the world!!!

It's absolute political ******.....my knowledge on politics isn't fantastic but what I've read, seen and visually witnessed in the last few weeks makes me side totally towards the Palestinians!

Maybe if the palastinons stop sending rocket s over then the Israeli s might just stop hitting back.

I do of course realise that that is over simplying the situation. But it's a start to what is a shocking situation

How a nation can use White Phosphorous to burn children alive on the street and get away with it is beyond me.

And every nation, including our own, is doing nothing about it just because it's Israel. I'm 100% behind Palestine.

    It isn't a war, it's a genocide.

Have to agree. Whatever's happened in the past might be used as reasoning for this, but the facts are clear: in the last few weeks, Israeli forces have murdered hundreds of children in their beds.

In World War 2 the Nazis knocked on doors of the innocent Jews and told them to leave their homes, now we have the Jews sending letters to the innocent palestinians saying the same thing......................ironic don't you think, have they learned nothing. And all the time the West stands by and does absolutely nothing.

Maybe because Hamas are willing participants in this terrible war and like it or not Israel are not going to just sit back while they are being hit by rockets and while the tunnels are still being used with murderous intent. The civilian casualty count on the Palestinian side is so high, in part, because of the tactics being deployed by Hamas so don't believe everything you read and hear - there are other factors to be considered. I am not on any side in this terrible conflict; I can see both sides of the argument and to some degree and I can sympathise with both sides. To blame just one side just because they have a bigger military might at their disposal is being short-sighted in my opinion.

The history behind the graffiti makes it even worse.

Whilst I sort of agree with you its not that simple - these things never are. The Palestinians are governed by Hamas an organisation that deliberately launches missiles from schools and heavily populated areas knowing full well that the Israelis will take out the missile launcher and almost certainly the collateral damage will include civilians and children.

Depending on which side you are on the latest escalation is because Hamas built tunnels through which they can ( and do ) use attack Israel - and they target Israeli civilians not the military. Dont forget Hamas in its charter is committed to the destruction of Israel so its fairly easy to understand why Israel feels it needs to defend itself.
Hamas has a deliberate policy of provoking Israel to do things which make it look bad so is heavily complicit in this

Of course the Palestinians in Gaza have other good reasons for disliking Israel and wouldnt have elected Hamas to power if it wasnt for the desperate situation they are in as Israel completely controls access to the Gaza strip and what goods are allowed in and out etc - there is a border with Egypt but for some reasons that I am less clear about the Egyptians are just as bad regarding who and what goods can pass through the border

Israel feels its under attack form Hamas and so believes it is defending itself appropriately, the Palastinians think Israel is the agressor and so need to defend themselves - both have a point to some degree

I am not trying to defend Israel as some of its actions are clearly wrong and in breach of UN resolutions and international law but to paint Hamas as a blameless victim is also very simplistic

    A few things....

    1. The UN charter allows for the right of an occupied people to resist occupation. The Palestinian people in Gaza and The West Bank are occupied by Israel. Therefore they have the right to resist.
    2. Gaza is blockaded by land, air and sea. They are in effect living in a prison (complete with barriers to stop them leaving).
    3. Israel has F-16 jets, tanks, an army, naval ships, guided missiles, helicopters - everything you would expect from a modern military (and supplied by the West).
    4. Palestinians have none of this, just some rather ineffective missiles which only very occasionally kill someone or cause any damage.
    5. Yet people constantly say that the Palestinians "should stop firing rockets" as a pretext to peace.

    A brief analogy.

I kick you out of your house and move in. (You have a lovely house btw!) As a result you move into the cramped shed at the bottom of the garden. Understandably you don't like this but I wont move out, it's my house now! Everyone else in the street gives you no support in getting your house back. You throw rocks at my windows - some of which occasionally cause damage of kill/hurt someone. You carry on throwing rocks at my new house, so I drop some concrete blocks through your shed roof and kill your children. I tell your neighbours you are a terrorist and that your children wouldn't have been killed had you not been using them as human shields.

Your resistance continues so I take some of the land around your garden shed and build a build a wall round it. I lock you in and monitor everything that comes in and out. Occasionally I turn off the electricity and water. You have limited medical supplies and your family often gets sick. Still you keep resisting so i drop some more concrete blocks through the shed roof killing your wife. You appeal for help to the neighbours but they aren't going to help, they are supplying me with the concrete blocks im dropping on you!

You get the idea. People are taught to stand up to bullies, which is what Israel is. They should be the ones making the concessions - not the Palestinians.

I think you two are both a bit over the top here - its not genocide its not even close and as for stating that in the last few weeks they have murdered hundreds of children in their beds - I think you are placing too much belief in what Hamas wants you to think

a good article on the subject in Time magazine - I wont claim its completely neutral as I dont think it is but I think its basically sound

You're the sort of person in the playground who would watch the school bully take a small lads lunch money, beat the crap out of him and then when the little lad fights back stand there picking fluff from your belly button whilst commenting, "The little lad should stop hitting him, then he'd stop being beaten up. To blame the big lad for causing so much pain is a bit short-sighted in my opinion. I can see both sides of the argument - but none of it involves stopping the bully or giving the little lad his lunch money back."

Israel is bombing a large strip of land in Gaza. All of this area is being bombed and bulldozed. Yet you think Hamas is responsible for deaths?

The term genocide (one which is often misunderstood) is a tricky one to define accurately, but Israel's bombardment of Gaza ticks most of the boxes of genocide.

And if you dont think hundreds of kids have been killed, you are very, very wrong. And it's not Hamas that are saying this - major mainstream media organisations are reporting the same. Go look at the images online if you want. But be warned, you'll get a rude awakening.

An often repeated claim that actually is no longer true. It was dropped form its charter some time ago.

Appropriately?! It's entirely disproportionate. Have you seen the numbers of dead on each side? Would you have supported the UK bombing of Ireland in order to stop the car bombs on the UK mainland?

Im not a fan of Hamas per se, but the Palestinians have the right to defend themselves FROM AN OCCUPYING FORCE.

When people say "Im not taking sides" it generally means "Im about to say some pro-Israeli things barbed in some fluffy language to make me sound quite reasonable."

Let's put this on other foot then....if the Palestinians were murdering 100's of Israelites what would the west be doing?

They'd be out of there air bases within hours dropping bomb after bomb. Yes it does take 2 tango but Israel know they have the upper hand and also the backing of the Americans so they feel they are invincible, and the west sits back and offers little or no support to the now thousands who are being driven from there homes!!

Seventy odd year ago our government and army committed themselves to a cause to stop things like this happening yet here we are watching day after day families carrying there dead children through there own streets.

It is wrong on many levels and it stinks!

Don't forget that the UK government have also vetoed resolutions against Israel.

Whilst Hamas are not blameless at all, the Israelis have weapon shields built at US expense that are stopping virtually all the rockets aimed at them. Gaza is nothing more than a ghetto, the Israelis claim that they warn the civilians in advance of an attack, but there is nowhere for the people to go to. There are heavy controls to make it hard for people to leave the Gaza strip and people are living cheek by jowl.

The reason the US won't do anything is because the Jewish lobby is so strong in the US, just watch some US news and Obama is being called out as being "anti-Israel" purely because as well as speaking out against Hamas he has also said that Israel must stop what they are doing. This is why nothing will even change.

Watching news the other week which was a report on a hospital being hit, no opinion piece, just a news report of what had happened and my wife said "Is the UK anti Israel?" - basically because she'd not seen any news before showing it from anything other than the Israeli angle.

There is no doubt that hundreds of children have been killed during the conflicts - in fact though its hard to quantify accurately its almost certain that over 1000 children have been killed in the last 15 years but I dont think hundreds of Children have been killed in the last few weeks.

In the last few weeks was the quote - and I dont think that is accurate

I read your other post on the palastinian position and it is hard to disagree with general content. and it is undoubtedly how palastinans see things.
The problem is that Israel has been attacked ever since it was created - they didnt initially start the fighting it was the displaced arabs and palastinians who resented Israel being given their land Israel believes that to defend itself from these attacks it has to take action

its important to remember that Hamas has in its constitution the goal to completely destroy Israel - and they are not alone in that desire. You have to bear in mind that if Israel didnt defend itself it would have ceased to exist a long time ago. You ( and I for that matter) may well think that Israels attacks are disproportionate but this isnt as black and white as some are painting

Dont get me wrong I am not a supporter of many of the actions Israel has taken but to take at face value the poor defenceless civilian picture painted by Hamas is also a bit simplistic.
