I don't think we will

We need to get away from the mindset of frequent manager changes. They have done us no good in the past, and history shows they aren't doing other clubs much good either.

I don't think Davey is a bad manager, despite calls for his head from some. Earlier in the season my view was that he ought to go, but I have since changed that view.

Perhaps a gradual build from last season, and the new cash injection coming our way may help the manager to provide more options instead of juggling with the few resources he had at times.

Barnsley, as we all know, is not the sort of place where would-be managers and players are known to be beating a path to the door. They have to be searched out, and at times fought over.

    We need to remember that.

impossible to guarantee it of course..................

it's a judgement call i suppose on PC's behalf since he controls the purse strings-personally I'd give him 12-15 games next season and see if he has learnt by his mistakes

have you watched same season as i have. davey has not got a clue he had a lot more resources than people make out how many other barnsley managers have splashed out 1mil+ on a player? thing that i see is man for man we are as good as preston burnley and teams like that we just havent got anyone to motivate them. davey is a gloryfied scout never going to take away the fact he has fetched some good players in to the club we just need someone to now manage them

    Well - yes I have.

I agree with you, not many clubs splashed out £1.1m on a player. And by the same token, not many clubs lost their most expensive player by the 3rd month of the season.

It must have been a huge loss by Barnsley standards, and put us on the back foot for much of the season. Not the only reason, but a significant one.

    It's a moot point

The case for "not changing" usually comes hand in hand with statements about Wenger, Ferguson etc. Fact is there are plenty of incompetent managers that clubs have persisted with that never get a mention. We need a *good* manager.

If there is a better manager than Davey available then get rid. If we can only get replacements at the level of Parkin, Hodges etc then there is no point.

I just don't get why anyone thinks Davey will learn anything from his mistakes. He's doing the same things now (e.g. negative tactics, players out of position, statuesque on the touchline during games) that he was in his first season. Why will next season be any different?

Also, why do people want to 'give him x games' next year? Mid-season managerial changes are far from ideal (as your original post is pointing out) so if we're going to bite the bullet it needs to be now to give the new man a full pre-season with the squad and the maximum time to make changes.

I don't see the logic of starting a season with a manager on borrowed time, with a backup plan of mid-season upheaval. If anything is likely to ensure another relegation scrap it's that kind of 'non-decision'.

what do people think of a bloke with the tactical knowledge that davey doesnt have coming in as assistant to Davey? surely this would be better than a brand new manager, new set of players etc. back to square one. who would actually come in if davey went?

i don't like davey, but what good does changing everything do? the players we have (including the couple of loanees), plus 2/3 additions, would make a good squad capable fo mid-table IF the right man was alongside Davey to help him with his tactics.
