From early on in the game his every touch was booed by some sections of the crowd. When he was subbed the whole ground booed him, as loud as I've ever heard. If anything, it got even louder when he was shown on the big screen. Fair enough, he did nowt, but he wasn't alone in that. With the possible exception of Oscar, the rest of the Brazil side did nowt. They were all crap. And Fred was just passively crap. He did nothing, but he wasn't at fault for any of Germany's goals. Marcelo and Luiz had a nightmare. They had an active role in just about every Germany goal. Brazil would have probably faired much better if they'd just taken these two players off and not bothered replacing them such was their indiscipline. Maicon was no better. Fernandihno simply gave Germany their 4th. But it was Fred's fault, an isolated striker, well marshalled by a good German defence, who didn't have so much as a sniff at goal because the rest of the team didn't create any chances. Was he booed because he's not Neymar? Our best striker is injured, so we'll boo Fred because he's not as good. WTF is all that about? Maybe they booed him because his name isn't Brazilian enough. If he was called Fredrico or Fredandihno he would probably have got away with the same treatment handed out to the rest of the team rather than being singled out.
He's been crap all tournament. Static, disinterested and a shadow of the player who grabbed goals at the Confederations Cup. Not that booing would improve any of that obviously.
I wondered that last night, it seemed strange and a bit unfair that after the worst team performance in history the fans reserve most of their anger for one player. Lets be honest he deserved booing but so did the rest of the team who were worse than awful but it does seem that it was mainly down to him not being Neymar.
Congratulations to Fernandinho on surpassing Gerrard as the worst "holding" midfield player in the tournament.
Every football fan needs a scapegoat. Fred just happens to be the Brazilians. He suffers because he's not Ronaldo. Or Romario. Even Bebeto. Let alone going back to the brilliance of the 70's. And he's not very good. But that sums up Brazilian football now. You look through that entire side and would any of them get in the sides of even the 90's? I'd rather have Kennedy and M'Voto (yes, together) than Marcelo and Luiz, truly awful players. Just an aside about the part of the game I saw. Germany didnt have to get out of 2nd gear. Long balls over the top into space with no defensive cover. That's just easy. It should have been more from what i saw. And Brazil, as shockingly bad as they were could have had 5 or 6 with great chances they fluffed or were greedy at the end. The German defence looked slow and disjointed. It was masked to some degree by a very good keeper and a very good midfield. I think that's the last game i'll watch. The constant cheating of both sides make it a very ugly game in the modern era.
As well as his poor play, the added factor with Fred was that Jo, who can be equally bad, plays in Belo Horizonte where the game was last night and the crowd wanted Jo to replace Fred.
What got me they`re 6-0 nil up and one of the Germans goes darn rollin ararnd when he weren`t even touched. Its bred into em these days it must be.
As bad as Fred is he's had no service all tournament. Paulinho, Hulk, Oscar & Willian should be getting more of the abuse. I've seen more creativity at Oakwell this season than them 4's provided.
Only as baffling as the people who used to boo Jim O'Brien after Adam Hammill left, or Jon Macken when Daniel Bogdanovic was on the bench.
