He didn't even get booked. I thought the definition of the red card offence was 'denying a clear goalscoring opportunity?' If that wasn't clear, I don't know what is.
No idea...and even more astounding, their player who elbowed ours in the face right in front of the linesman who flagged for it, and all the ref gave was a free kick!
Because the ref gave the free kick to Doncaster. He obviously decided Paddy took a dive. Paddy lucky not to have been booked himself.
And why, seeing as their number 7 was almost level with the ball when COG kicked it, wasn't a retake of the pen ordered?.....
He gave a penalty, which is the award given for a foul normally punishable by a direct free kick which is committed within the offending player's own penalty area. Ref applied the right rule and the correct decision was made with no further action required IMHO.
I think it was because peds was deemed not to have the ball under control, not a goal scoring opportunity
Said exactly the same to JLWBL at the time. Personally, I don't think he should have been sent off as that particular law is an ass. The penalty is punishment enough. However, if we've got these laws we have to stick to them or what's the point? If we gloss over that law does that also mean players can pick the ball up and throw it in? As you said, there isn't a better example of a goalscoring opportunity.
