Just upgraded my Orange to network and the instructions arriving with the gear are utterly useless. Call for assistance and I get a voice that is difficult to understand. I am not racist but I am sure that there are 'help' lines that could be operated from the UK.

I am now considering bunging the whole package back to Orange and trying BT.

    Cheap

they get paid ten bob a day to answer phones, never realising it's peanuts. Why would the big phone companies pay more and create jobs in the UK just to provide actual help? Providing help is not what they worry about, just the money.

    I had a similar experience

and can fully understand what you mean. And the reason they are used is because they come cheap. It's very frustrating when you have a problem that requires assistance and you can not get the helper to understand you.

Worst experience from AOL/Warner which a) used to be free as part of the package b) UK or US based c) always bang on the button at helping

Took 3 hrs of premium rate for no help but a £30 fone bill

My wife gets about 3 "international" calls a day from Alliance and Leicester in India...

we ignore the calls. (they show up as "international" on caller display)
However, I was waiting for them to call on Xmas Day.... sadly they didn't. If they had done then the whole of the Indian sub-continent would have still been reverbarating from the effect of some Barnsley whole scale abuse.
They get on my tits, the lot of em.

Halifax used to employ me though fella so don't get too excited at the quality of service...

    :D :D :D

Dollars to doughnuts sez the last but one bank to move their services abroad will be followed, like lightning, by the last - the "we use English call centres" is more an advertising ruse than any patriotic instinct...

    Oh definately.

Like the NatWest adverts of "there is another way" about opening branches and being able to phone your branch - this coming after they'd closed branches and took away the ability to phone the branch!

I work for Halifax - they are currently going on about how they are rolling out the facility for customers to call the branch direct as though that's some amazing thing! Wow! They have a phone in the branch do they?!

Not at West Bank (?) by any chance 'cos I know you work in Leeds?

    What do you do?

I spent six-months on the telephone banking line in Leeds - even we struggled to get the phone numbers for branches to put folk through to. I've done everything from pack furniture, deliver curries and stick rubber tops in steam-iron handles but it was the single most boring, frustrating and degrading job I've ever done!!!

    flipping Halifax - b*stards...

    p.s. I didn't realise Halifax delivered curries!
