Why do people use 'with' instead of 'to'

e.g. He was speaking with Dave.

 

because Dave will presumably have spoken back to him.

 

i am going with crack one off

would have been a better example

 

tittering to laughter

 

'To or to out you' hasn't quite got the same ring to it</p>
