Rednapp - successful at Portsmouth and must be held in such high esteem by fans. players and owners alike. Why oh why give this up for Spurs where he he has could be non a hiding to nothing. Big Sam did a similar thing going to Newcastle when very successful at Bolton.

I know there is the drive to achieve one's potential and all that but you can see it ending in tears. Why do they do it?

I guess he will be retiring in a couple of years anyway. Probably his last "big" chance.

Surely they cant be short of a bob or too or financial security already

Though maybe not - Rednapp surely could have seen his days out very comfortably at Portsmouth without the anguish he is going to get a Spurs

Better to be a legend at Portsmouth than yet another big name failing at a "big" club nt

    The idea of a challenge

Arry cant need the money - has probably thought he has taken Pompey as far as he can

Last chance to do something with a side with potential to crack the big 4 - if he can keep them up this season.

I can see why he would give it a go

    Can see your point..................

but cannot help feeling that some of these managers dont know when they a well off - always going after getting into the top four. Could understand it if he was 10 years younger. But if he is withing 2 years of retirement .......well

I imagine that money still motivates Harry Redknapp

...but let's face it, he can do a lot more with Tottenham. He's always been in that bracket of managers who get clubs to punch above their weight - this is a chance to show what he can actually do with a big club. I expect Portsmouth to be back in the Championship within three years.

So you are knocking him for having ambition

Its probably why he has been successfull - otherwise he could have stayed at Bournemouth - he was doing quite well there a long time ago

True he could see out his remaining years to retirement but one last big chance - If he doesnt take it he will probably be thinking what if...

I must admit for me I get bored if doing the same thing for too long and like a fresh challenge every so often - so I can see where 'Arry's mind is on this

    - There is the added benefit of money but I am sure thats not the main reason

    true but......

is Spurs in this day an age a better prospect for him than what he has got at Portsmouth. Still if that is his reason I still wish him well. I know he has his critics but I have always liked him and his achievements speak for themselves - even if he does not succeed at Spurs

    Good question

And I dont know. maybe we will find out in the next couple of years - but odds are he will be taking early retirement with a decent payoff in a few months :)

Actually I dont like the guy -but you cant knock his achievements

Without Redknap where will Portsmouth be

You could be right without him they may struggle to stay in Premier League. But when they arrive in the Championship they could well be playing Spurs. The championship is littered with ex premier sides - some of them slumming for a while whilst on the way to League 1

    Portsmouth are struggling financially

Like Harry says, they were looking to sell two or three players in January just to provide the money to pay the wage bill. You can't have players like Pompey have when you only get 19,000 home fans a week.

He won the F.A Cup with them, took them to the dizzy heights of the top six, and is now going to have one last crack with Spurs at something he was never in with a chance of doing at Portsmouth, Champions League Football.

Y are you all saying one last crack as though redknapp is 80 or something, he has clearly gone for the money, spurs paid 5mil to get him and surley some of that has lined his pokets, there is littel more he can now do with pompy so chance to earn a pritty penny and even if it all goes up in smoke he'll get a huge pay off and there will be a long list of teams happy to give him a job
