On Sunday Jon Parkin got some abuse from the fans, and I can't see what he has done to deserve it. To my recollection, he was released by the club, he didn't ask to leave. The same happens with Rory Fallon. He didn't ask to go, he was sold by us to Swindon. Same with Paul Hayes. Released by us, and then given some abuse when he came back with Scnuthorpe. Now I can understand that feelings run high against some players (McPhail, probably Brian Howard), but the three I have mentioned above have, to my recollection, never bad mouthed the club or its fans. What is wrong with us, when we can't appreciate what a player has done for the club, and show that appreciation when he returns?
Hayes was bone idle when he was at oakwell, gifted but never shown his true ability at barnsley. At scnuthorpe he runs like a blue arsed fly into channels chasing down balls throwing himslf into tackles. He even played with a gimp mask on protecting his cheek bone.
Yes but he was an important part of the team that won promotion Scoring in the semi-final and final. His penalties (although he used to give me heart failure when he strode up to take them) were a big part of our success.
I think its because he left us just after promotion Just got into the Championship and he goes off to Cardiff, probably for more money. I can't say I blame him, but I thought he might have at least given us a chance.
While at Swindon... Our fans were having a bit of banter singing "Rory Rory rar rar rar", then he called us all *******. That's why he gets it....
RE: While at Swindon... that were yer wrong, discrimination jonners, u try gerrin a job at a gynocologists and being a ****** at same time. snorapnin
Oh come on We were giving Rory some stick first - see original post. We all pissed ourselves when he got booked for his friendly return guesture I actually like Fallon - thought he was unfairly targeted by a large section of our fans - he has proved he is good enough to play at this level contrary to what many said when he was still young and learning. Couldnt blame him when the club cashed in. I dont like us having a go at players who left because the club either cashed in or had finished with them. I can understand more that the likes of Mcfrail and Howard get abuse.
RE: Oh come on I think the difference is that people perceived that (as with Paul Hayes) he didn't do as well for us as he has done elsewhere. Personally I always felt a bit sorry for Fallon, because I thought he was targeted (mostly unfairly) a lot by our fans while he was here. He was the scapegoat most of the time. Same thing with Parkin, people feel he's done better elsewhere. I always rated him, even had his name on my shirt while he was here (although his number was then given to flynn or gibbs so I was gutted), but he was played as a defender here. He's built himself up though. Went from league 2 (maybe even conference?) to get to where he is now. To my knowledge in that game against Swindon all we were singing was that "Rory Rory ra ra ra" song. That's not particularly abusive, then he did that. Although I could be wrong as it was about 4 years ago.
They don't have to be "ex" players do they? Fallon got plenty of stick whilst he was still at the club - and he was not much more than kid at the time.
We had no choice to sell I believe In Administration, and he was on a week-to-week contract as we already had 20 players on the books. Offer came in and we had to sell. I agree with you that we underestimated him. Only a 19 year old, yet he was made to lead the line which he did well. Remembering him outjumping the keeper on a couple of occasions to score.
RE: That's fair enough not quiet true my friend.chopra reacted to the " hart hate mongers " at the bottom of the ponte and with him been the final piece in harts jigsaw puzzle and not initially living up to expectations he " copped for it " from the 14 year olds and the baseball hat brigade. I spoke to michael several times after that and he knew the crack and enjoyed his time at oakwell
I reckon its the best thing to do if you want them to score against us Its always happened but some folk just keep doing it regardless.
Cheers mate I stand corrected, and I'm happy to know that Chopra wasn't put off by the idiots. He was a class act while he was with us, and has gone on to prove it in the Championship. I would love him down here, but I can't see it happening.
