Back to goal hold on to it until fouled or dispossessed, it's defending from the front, basically they're defenders, why do we need to defend all over the pitch at home in this league ?

To hold up the ball, bring others into play, challenge for long balls, get on the end of crosses, compete with big centre halves.

Why compete with big centre halves just get in behind um frightening them to death with pace good defenders hate pace so these in this league will hate it even more. hold ball up for what ? Why hit the ball long it's bread and butter to defenders in this league ? Which crosses are these then ? Who do they bring into play nearest man to him 20 yard away ?

The only purpose of these two is to defend from the front, so again why ?

All good teams defend from the front.

They're not defending from the front, they are there to hold the ball up and bring other players into the game.

Who do they bring into play the nearest man to them is on the wing or 20 yards away, what exactly are they holding the ball up for, to run down the clock and hope for a free kick ?

I agree totally chase down the opposition win back the ball high up and amount another attack that's how good teams do it, the way we do it is to do it in a way to defend a point and not to lose get the ball away from our goal and keep it there as long as possible with no attacking intent what so ever

To be fair playing an isolated front man as we were first half achieves little.

A lot of the time you have to play it long. Goal kicks, when the defence is under pressure, clearances. Without a target man we'd have no chance of retaining possession.

Arsenal don't play long ball but they have a target man up front. The majority of the time strikers receive the ball with their back to goal. You need the strength to hold off the opposition.

It achieves exactly what Johnson wants it to achieve, keeping the ball away from our net as long as possible, aka defending from the front, trying to stay in the game as long as possible and hope to Nick 1-0 it's piss pure and a complete joke playing like that in this league against the teams we're playing against

Yes but with other teams they do it to buy time for players to join in they use him as a target man the way you describe what a target man dose we use ours as a defender
