Cos footballers are girly nancy boys who cry if they break a nail While fighting in hockey isnt legal it's excepted. I play Ice and inline hockey so I've had a few altercations We brits can rough it up with the best of them! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ioyQi-rb1DM Dean
Yeah right ! Dead tough. Wi' a stick, a helmet and 700lbs of body armour. Puffs. Put 'em on a rugby field they be running for their lives.
(casualty)

RE: Yeah right ! Dead tough. How much protection do you think the padding gives you when some 230lbs 6'3" guy is skating at you at 30mph? Or someone hits a lump on vulcanised rubber at you at speeds of upto 110mph? Non at all. Most players wear very little padding as it restricts movement. Just enough for the insurance. If you notice on most fights the equipment is the first to go as it's easier to fight without it. Your comment regarding rugby I asume you are getting confused with American football. Dean
Hey, chill I like the sport, as I do most North American sports. I have a cousin who was a big shot in the NHL before he moved to a business career.
No I wasn't getting confused. Most NFL players who discuss the comparison say they believe rugby players are crazy to wear so little protection. (though they do seem to be weraing more these days).

RE: Hey, chill Sorry matey just get a bit upperty as you find so many people who write off the sport without knowing the facts. I used to have the same opinion until I played it. I played semi-pro football till I had to retire. I found Hockey to be a substitute but I've now got to love the sport even more. I go watch it too when I can. Shame more people dont go and give the sport a chance as it's cheaper and more entertaining than football. I guess it's all about how open minded people are. Dean
RE: Yeah right ! Dead tough. The NHL tried clamping down on the fighting but the fans didn't like it, first time I saw a game on TV and a fight broke out I was astounded when the commentators started commentating as though it was a boxing match! First NHL game I went to I overheard a guy behind me saying he was leaving some film in his camera (this being before digital cameras were widely owned) in case there was a fight, and after the game he was moaning because there hadn't been one! Some of the hits, particularly against the boards, are enough to make you wince when you see them, and hear them, up close. Best I saw though was in a British ice hockey match, was the 2nd leg of a cup tie, and the ref dropped the puck to start the game and before it hit the ice a player behind him just whacked an opponent with his stick and a brawl started!
The commentary's hilarious.
Like you say they just switch to fight commentary. Brilliant.
With all that gay padding restricting their arm movements I'm surprised not to see them going in with the head. They need some proper training.

RE: Yeah right ! Dead tough. Newcastle player was sent off 6 seconds into this current season - nice going!
In your opinion of course Everyone is entitled to one. I think Rugby Union and Basketball is total toss but I'm sure some will disagree. I was of the same opinion to you untill I watched, played and understood the game. Dean
lets go Steelers... Seen that clip before, but its still amazing for the duration and violence involved, some fights are a bit half-hearted but that one is vicious. Best moment is at 2.10 when the entire Steelers then Panthers teams pile on to the ice. Used to be a big Steelers fan back in the day, but have to admit they kicked our arse a bit in that one.
RE: lets go Steelers... They did that. Not too often they managed that so I'll give em that one! You should get yourself back down. This years team is more like an old fashioned Steelers team. Had a bad result last weekend but hopefully that will be put right on friday night against Manchester. Dean
