Thought he did ok at CB last season. He is on the short side but quite a few games stand out when he won a fair bit in the air.

    He can play right back

Very well. And he's done a job in centre midfield for most games he's played there this season. He's been off the pace the last two home games like, he looks knackered.

    'too short for centre back'

is one of the most ridiculous statements that football supporters come out with regularly. Souza is a big lad but **** whenever someone runs at him.

I hope you don't mean he's done a GOOD job in midfield most games

It's all about opinions I know, and I don't wanna knock Bobby as he does try, and had a couple of reasonable games in midfield to say it's not his position, but there's no way imo that he's done a good job in midfield most of the games he's played there. Makes the odd challenge here and there, like you'd expect as he's really a defender. But his pass completion rate is nowhere near good enough for a midfielder. His positioning is shocking to say the least.

Cannavarro is 5ft 8 and he's useless at centre back isn't he!?

    I believe

that people see Hassell as a defender and as such refuse to judge his performances in midfield with any objectivity. They just won't have it that he can play there and use his inclusion as a stick to beat Davey. I reckon he's played OK in most of his games in that position. He's looked very tired in the last couple of games, but to counteract that he was phenomenal in the game against Chelsea. Without him in midfield that day we wouldn't have gone through. I definitely don't want to see us start next season with Hassell in central midfield, but I do believe he's done a job. Having said all that, I would have played Johnson in that position. I've no idea what went wrong there.

Agree with your comments about Johnson, and the match against Chelsea, but not with most of his other performances. I appreciate you may not have meant me when you said about judging his performances in midfield and seeing him as a defender, but I definately don't judge him because of that. I'd like to think I have tried to give him the chance to perform in midfield without trying to judge him as a defender. What I would say about his performances though is that i'd expect him to be in the side as a holding midfielder, like defenders do tend to be when they move into midfield. It makes sense to play a defender as a defensive midfielder if you are lacking in that area. But to see him pushing well on into the opposing half, often at the edge of the opposing penalty area, higher up the pitch than Brian Howard, then I think either Davey is instructing him to play like that (obviously not Hassell's fault) or he is just wandering out of position. As a holding midfielder the centre circle should be his domain, unless we are defending then he should be deeper. No way should he be higher than the centre circle, at all.

Like I say though, if this is Davey's instruction then sorry Bobby. And it is all a matter of opinions, but Hassell hasn't impressed in midfield at all for me (with the exception of Chelsea). Johnson and Togwell should be ahead of him in the pecking order, whatever differences Davey has had with them, the team should come first.

like i said hassles best position is cb, and he does win his fair share of headers.
by saying he is too short for cb is what everyones seems to say when he plays there

    Andy Johnson?

I believe the reason Johnson doesnt play is that he runs and plays like hes played 40 odd games a season anyway
his legs have gone and is not quick enough

I think you're quite right that Hassell's best position is centre-back. As a right-back he gets pulled out of position and his crossing is a bit hit and miss, but compared to what we have in the position, he's not bad.</p>
