surely its in their interest to finish as high as possible as it affects who they get in the play offs

Personally, I can't see Coppell resting players etc, they need to build momentum for the play offs and finish as high as possible to make sure they play the home leg second.

With their home record I doubt they'll be bothered.
Norwich will be backed by a full house and are going to throw the kitchen sink at em. I just don't see Reading busting a gut when there's no need.

But they are going to get one of the top six best teams in the league no matter where they finish in the play off places. I think now will be seen by Coppell as the time to rest players ready for the play off battle and not risk injuries and suspensions.

Also, no-one seems to have mentioned that if Birmngham lose to Preston on Saturday.....

........then Reading can pip them for the second automatic spot by beating Norwich then Brum on the final day - their goal difference is miles better.

But for Preston it's a must win to keep alive their play-off hopes.

    Only problem with that theory

is that they don't play Norwich until Monday, so by then will know the Brum score. I agree that if Brum lose to Preston then Reading will be all guns blazing as, with the last game being Brum, automatic promotion is effectively back in their hands then.

In practise, the Brum vs Preston game has a major bearing for us. Fascinating how the permutations work ain't it.

I think that Reading will go for it anyway on Monday as they will want to try and ensure a top 4 finish to play at home in the second leg. If results go for them elsewhere, they may then rest players for the final game at Brum.

Didn't look too turdy against Cardiff on Saturday! I'd take a false position of 7th going into the last fortnight of the season every time! Besides, I heard that Brum look absolutely wnak when we played 'em a couple of months back.

RE: Only problem with that theory

I know what you mean about the order of fixtures coming very much into play. That has also been affecting the permutation-ometer in my head which is preventing me from sleeping.

the league is very close in terms of quality imho.

    even closer than last season.

i haven't seen a stand out team this season which I did last (Stoke at Oakwell) but I am not sure whether this is because the standard is worse than last season or we are dare I say, better.

I don't really know what I'm talking about, time for bed...
