Why is it that we hardly ever get any coverage on TV?

Sure, I know there are a lot of clubs that could say the same but if I was to be brave and put us in the top 30 clubs in England in terms of being consistently in at least the second tier for the majority of our history, we seem to be forgotten about.

Now I'm not a Wednesday fan so I don't care too much for attendances but it's worth saying that even though the turnout at Oakwell is disappointing, there is a lot of people who hardly ever go but are massive fans of the club. It's understandable, these days going to matches can be very expensive, I was gutted at having to miss two home games over Christmas and the New Year but they just came too fast for me and I couldn't afford it, especially with the other expenses of Christmas.

BBC Radio - Obviously with the fallout we aren't gonna get much coverage but they didn't put up much of a fight and the club must have had a point in their argument over money for them not to back down.

ITV (The Championship, Soccer Night) - Don't recall being part of the main match on the Championship this season, dare I say it - most of the other teams have. Think we were only on the main match once last season (v Leeds) and even John Champion says at the end that it is one of the best matches of the season so far. In terms of Soccer Night, yeah the goals get shown but that's about it....although they gab about League 2 so much on there that there is hardly any time for the Championship.

Sky Sports - We don't seem to be on any more than when we were in League 1. Looking at the calendar on their website it doesn't look like we are gonna be on in the next few months either. Sky Sports News - Used to be able to rely on them for the odd live interview or press conference - now all we get is a bit of text at the bottom of the screen.

I may have a twisted view being a Barnsley fan and fair enough, of the population we make up a tiny proportion of football fans but I just don't think we get a fair deal.

It shouldn't matter to me but for some reason it does!

    Anyway, rant over.

Not sure if you remember when they only used to show the top 6 and bottom 6 of the league table on TV rather than all.....remember us being 7th, and then we got to 6th so thought we'd be shown and that week they only showed the top 5!

I can't remember that but it doesn't surprise me at all, maybe they should just leave us off the table, tot up our points and then show our position at the end of the season. The word "Barnsley" obviously offends so many broadcasters!

    We're unfashionable!..........

In the eyes of the local press/tv. Small town = small club. Then.......... when we're doing well they roll out the 'friendly club' attitude... Normally; it's 'battling Barnsley', even when we've played some classy footie. I also think, on occasion, that it depends who the opposition are?

Mind you; when we beat Leeds 2-1 away in 89/90, according to Look North Leeds United FC refused to release the full video for highlights on their programme, but they showed Leeds hitting the crossbar twice and a couple of misses on their behalf - plus their goal (Chris Fairclough methinks?). But there was nothing on our goals and Gerry taggarts victory celebration at the end....... Personally; i believe it was sour grapes on account of both parties PLUS: we were the only team in the whole division to beat them home and away. :D

    Who cares?

    I don't.

Go to matches, support the team, take the chip off your shoulders.

    I don't give a **** about ITV.

    RE: Who cares?

Media coverage = getting noticed = more fans down at oakwell.
no media coverage = fans that can only afford to go to a few matches ,(me a one time ) not in the general conversation ,no stimulus to attend home game.

    Generally it's pretty crap.

But to be fair to SKY, we have been on twice this season and they do try to mix it up a bit with their live games.

    Who wants TV coverage anyway?

Let us build a decent team on the quiet instead of bringing our players to the attention of the world.
