So does that outweigh The success he had at Bradford & Wigan? Or is that success tainted in some way? I can't think of any experienced manager who hasn't got some failure on his CV.
Correct nearly all the managers available have been sacked and therefore failed. Coppell being the exception.</p>
RE: So does that outweigh He was bank-rolled heavily at Bradford and Wigan. Much, much more heavily than is possible at Oakwell.
the places he`s `failed` at gave him no time at all, where he has been given the time he`s done well, the Wednesday chairman even admitted this after they got rid of him,he`d be my choice, given a 3 year +deal and left alone, even if we do go down this year
I don't agree with regards to Bradford They may have spent more than they'd done previously to bring in the likes of Lee Mills & Robbie Blake, but it was hardly 'bank-rolling' in comparison with the rest of the division. In fact, Bradford didn't go bonkers with the spending until after he'd left in the summer of 2000. He certainly had plenty of money to spend at Wigan, but that in itself does not guarantee success. If it did, Newcastle would be one of the Big Four. Jewell still had to mould promotion winning teams and one that would be capable of surviving in the Premier League. I'm not advocating any particular individual for the manager's position, but feel simply discounting a person's success due to availability of an impressive budget at one club would be somewhat of a narrow minded approach.
RE: I don't agree with regards to Bradford You've forgotten Benito Carbone's wages then, that among others crippled the club! Edit: I'm wrong about Carbone. Jewell left 2 months before Carbone was signed.
No I haven't Carbone signed for Bradford in the summer of 2000, AFTER Jewell had left the club. Also, the salary paid to the player was down to Richmond, not the manager at the time (Hutchings).
He wasn't bank-rolled heavily at Bradford And as much as he had the money at Wigan they never really went for it in the transfer market until they got promoted to the premiership.
RE: Correct And people are saying Coppell is no good because he is a quitter! We won't be able to get anyone who has a flawless record. Questions are even asked about the top managers so think some people are looking for the impossible.
You asked "Why Jewell"? All I did was answer the question. You're just as entitled to your opinion as anyone else.
absolutely thats what makes it all go round.I do think we will not be waiting long to find out though.I have a gut feeling the new guy has more than likely been on hold for a long while already.
RE: Yeah, that's my gut feeling too nt Hope so. I'm dreading the immortal words 'We're going to take our time, advertise for applicants and make sure we get the right man for the job'. My fear has always been that we'll drag our feet and then appoint the wrong man.
