Shep has come out and said, thankfully this time on the official website, which makes it actually official, that Davey was the first chioce Has anything been reported in the Yorkshire Post from Blackwell that says otherwise..........NO !!! So until it doe's we cannot do anything else but beleive what Shep has said Davey was the first choice
IF (IF) and IF it was a choice between Blackwell and Davey I'd have gone with Davey Very disappointed though if those 2 were the front runners.
agree he has been appointed now so lets hope he is the right choice, remember alot were against wilson, ritchie and bassett!!
That's not a good thing If Davey was first choice then what were those interviews all about? GS wanted a good result in Wendy match so he could give us the news when we were happy with his performance. We are in the championship now and the club needs to wake up and realise that this is not the place for a new and unproven manager to start his career. This reflects the club's attitude with players too, we need experienced players not youngsters.
Choice between Blackwell and Davey...........thats not the point What Blackwell has alledgedly said to the Yorkshire Post is actually the point i.e. I (Blackwell) was the first choice but turned it down because Barnsley have no ambition and are getting ready for the 1st division Shep is saying on the official site that this was NOT the case, Davey was always the first choice I would have gone for Blackwell because he has that little bit more experience and he has something to prove after being sacked from Weeds
I am willinh to give Davey a chance. My issue is with the chairman, why pretend that it was ever going to be anything else. Ricthie, Hendrie, Hodges, Hunter, Bobby Collins. The list is endless, we promote from within. And its not nessecarily a bad thing. But why not just be honest about it, i for one would respect the man if he said what he was going to do straighaway, because i dont beleive for one minute that he had any intention of the next manager being anybody other than Davey.
RE: That's not a good thing Lets all hope and pray that we do get some much needed quality into the team. But i have this dreadful feeling that i can hear Shep saying ," We have made several offers for players, but their clubs wanted too much money, we have to be careful with our finances, and some of the player who we have looked at just didn't want to come. Simon will have to work with what we have." (titanic)
I think the reality is... the shortlist was drawn up 2 weeks before Ritchie got the heave-ho. And it had one name on it.
Why not let Shep stay at home by a warm fire counting his pension and get somebady in who knows how to run a football club.
