Nowt match. A chance to get a few extra in who might just enjoy it and come back (bit of a gamble, I know, on current form)? As a ST holder, I'd not object, and a bit of extra atmosphere would be welcome.

Folk would have to get their 'free' ticket in advance for crowd control purposes, and we might need to refund any casual home customers who'd already paid. But I think there's an opportunity here.

Because Barnsley FC is a business with staff, players and bills to pay.

Fiver a ticket would be better. Generates money but will still get more people through gates.

We've ran out of offers for just the home fans. If we have to offer tickets for a fiver, Rochdale fans would also get the same deal

There's no follow up game to take advantage of any good will/excitement generated. Do as you suggest in August, win the game, play really well, and some of the extra fans will come along to the next home game in a week or so. They'll keep coming too if we continue to win and play well. It's a loss leader, you take a hit in one game in the hope it will add to your future revenue. It's risky like, the team could lose and play rubbish, so no one will return, but it's a worthwhile experiment if your team are playing well.

Do the same now and there isn't another game for three months. Even if we do play well (doubtful judging by recent performances) and win (possibly, possibly not) people will have forgotten all about it by the time we play our next home game in August. Season tickets are on sale, but I very much doubt we're going to convince anyone to shell out £300 on the back of one game when it's taken a special offer to get them to come down.

Sunday will probably be the smallest home crowd of the season. Silly kick off time, Yorkshire bike race that some Barnsley fans want to watch, road closures and heavy traffic in town putting others off, and a meaningless fixture against an unglamorous team, particularly if Keith Hill fails to turn up, who might have given the occasion a bit of spice. But that could be a blessing in disguise. If we are really poor again, which seems likely, some folk still undecided about getting a season ticket may well not bother. They'll not be put off if they don't come.

Lower ticket prices means more people which then means more police needed for more idiots running on the pitch

why not just call it off cos it's a waste of time....bit like the whole season

and on LJ's current form, next season will be the same so why not call that off as well, shut down bfc and instead open a museum dedicated to thereev helping people.

Better still charge £40 a ticket, make some more money.

I can't be arsed to go to watch us hoofing the ball up to a lone forward I have tried to give my season ticket to 3 people and none of em want it. You literally can't give tickets away but we still try and flog em for 20 odd quid #business

I doubt many would bother wandering in if they just casually opened the gates .... been negative and poor last 6 games. Let's hope it's a lot different with a new squad of Johnson's own players come August. If not, another struggle looks likely

If it was free or even a tenner we'd probably lose money from hosting the game because of the need of extra policing/stewards to deal with the thousands of extra people who'd want to run on the grass.
