saw at least 4 of those v. Hartlepool reserves

admittedly they didn't look world beaters HOWEVER that Federenko looked a good prospect. Stood out from the rest and that's including Andy Johnson

I used to watch almost every academy home game. For me, many of those lads looked decent as first year students as compared to the players in the teams produced by the sides that we were playing. The management of the academy need to ask themselves why, under their management, these lads have slowly got worse. I feel sorry for the lads. They have wasted 2 years of their lives and have been told at the age of 18 that they are not good enough. Perhaps they will get another chance to make their way up from the lower divisions, but you are right, it is a statement about the quality of our coachng of future footballers.

is it what Capello pointed out, the UK academys go for the fit atheletes, the fast ones, the strong ones then judge them as footballers?

so maybe some of these lads have great technique but are as strong as twigs or as slow as sloths?

    or is it just..............

we sign what's left after the bigger clubs have taken who they want? personally I don't get it-Davey was brought here as Academy manager and yet he seems to ignore them completely-or maybe he just recognised they were dross-are we obliged to have one-if not I'd scrap it on the basis of the last few years

Check the FA web site out if you want to know what qualifications the academy coaches require.

Are these rough figures about right

Take a league with 24 teams and a squad of 25 players 600 players

They would have an average of 10 yrs playing life

Each squad has an acadamy of 30 pupils intake per year (not sure about this ) anyhow at that it would be 720 pupils

Over 10 years that would be 7200 pupils

Thats a 1 in 12 chance of getting signed on ??

Graham Taylor once said the hardest job ANY manager has to do is to tell a fourth year pupil that he just wont make the grade and he is being released

RE: Are these rough figures about right

    Yeh, I would say so.

A player generaly has a better chance of becoming a Pro in Leagues 1 and 2 than the higher leagues.
