In my opinion the FA should scrap the loan system. As we all know, money talks in football and unfortunately for all clubs outside the Premier League, they don't have any. Young players with a scrap of potential are bought by Premier League clubs, partly in case they become the next Wayne Rooney and partly to stop other clubs having them. This is especially prevalent for forward players, if they have some ability on the ball and can score a few goals in the Championship they are bought by a premier league club for a pittance. The player is happy because he gets a bumper contract, and even if he doesn't get a game he can just go on loan (and football clubs/managers can do dodgy deals to look after their buddies). Therefore, clubs like us and many more can't afford to buy a striker and instead have to rely on loaning players who might be able to score a few goals before eventually being sold to a higher championship club for daft money. How does that help our national side develop players? The answer - it doesn't. If teams were prevented from loaning out players (except in genuine emergencies e.g. no keeper) then they would be less inclined to buy every scrap of potential talent if they don't intend to play them. It would also make young players consider whether playing every week in the champsionship will be better for their career than not playing in the premier league. The knock-on effect would be that very average strikers who get paid a hatful would have to be more reasonable with their wage demands as the pool of potential players to sign would be larger. The sooner the loan system is scrapped, the sooner we'll see better attacking players developing for the national side.
