Let's face it - from where we are even we can't conjure up a relegation this time around. But how does our Messiah turn what he's already bought/begged for/borrowed into a more victorious team next season? The basis of our earlier season success was Butterfield, Vaz Te, Drinkwater (OK Davies and JOB need to be mentioned in dispatches) and errrr.... more Butterfield. Witness such as we now instead behold. How does this recent less than over-achievement translate to optimism for next year? And why do we now hump it forward instead of running dizzy rings around our under achieving opposition? This (imho glorious) mode of play disappeared at half time at home against Derby and has not been seen since. We will be stronger next season - but just let me in on the secret as to how this will be Thanks in advance
We will be weaker next season. We will have a further reduced budget and less support from the crowd as more and more people are priced out. Sad but true
weaker next season. how do you know, Summer transfer window was a good thing for Keith hill last season and i think it will be for him in the summer again. further reduced budget, Really can't see that, think it will be the same or a little more. priced out. 330 ST tell em another club that can pay that?
there one of the cheapest 315 in this league. And the fans have been moaning (not unusual for you i know) let us spread the cost. So the club did it to 3 months. The fans moaned and moaned again longer longer so they have and still you moan. FFS
Because the players he's signed in January will have had half a season in the Championship to adapt. We'll have got some higher earners off the wage bill, so more cash to work with. Cos Keef will sort it.
Just answer the question. Do you think that increasing the price will mean that some people cant afford it anymore?
well he did push butterfield to better things he brought in vaz te, drinkwater and davies. he also improved job. don't see why he can't do similar next season, in fact his record suggests he can. confidence and injuries are having an effect on our performances of late thats true but i think we'll come good.before end of season. and i also think hillcroft will have learned about players being tapped up and will try to counteract next time
In real terms we haven't. 5% inflation 15 quid on a 300 quid item. If they were 300 quid last year then NO.
how much money are we going to actually save with the higher earners off the wage bill and will it be enough to pick up some more players that are good enough to compete at this level,,as much as it pains me i'm really not so sure. as for how many season tickets we sell for next season, imo this will depend very much on how the remainder of this seasons goes,,and its not just about the results,if the fans see no real effort and creativity i dont think we'll sell as many as this season....ps. i hope i'm completely wrong in saying this.
I dont agree with the players he signed in january getting too much better but getting the big earners off the wage bill will deffinatley help Hill to improve us next season, Hill is the best thing at our club and giving him the option to spend the budget wher he wants to spend it will improve us.
nailed on relegation candidates next season. vaz te, butterfield and drinkwater replaced by dagnall, dawson and err nobody. can't score, **** we can't even shoot at goal. the happy clappers creaming over the management team need to realize things aint so rosey. oh and keef without the fans, there aint a football club
Fair points, I think Golbourne/Dawson/Dagnall etc still have a lot to prove but do have a full pre-season and next year to do it in. A big thing for me is that extra year's experience that Hill/Flitcroft will have. Seems Championship hit them harder than expected for the first couple of months and that won't be the case. Got to hope and pray we can find another Vaz Te for nowt, get some cash for Butterfield and another Drinkwater. Big ask and if we can't, we'll be struggling. But I still think this year has been a massive over achievement for us which shouldn't be ignored because of post January results.
The players he brought in pre- season had no time to adapt (as though this adapting is like they're playing summat with a different part of their anatomy) but generally did well. You can tell early doors whether you can play at this level or not (apart from JOB). As for the latest crop "It don't look good" (Ghostbusters)
dyson, the thing is we've cut our cloth for the financial fair play for next season, and the vote hasn't even happened yet. what happens if the vote goes against it, we will be in it big style.
It's because he doesn't understand anything about cost of living or about pay increases. Two things which are alien to him. That isn't a dig at him either, its just the truth.
Disgaree with that, we've cut our cloth partly because that's probably coming but the fact is we just don't have the backing of Cryne any more. Reckon we'd have had to do this regardless of the fair play rules.
I guess that the answer to this question will depend upon whether you are an optimist or a pessimist. I would generally count myself to be the later. When I arrived home from my annual holiday last June, I saw that our new manager had signed a load of players from the lower leagues. It was clear that we had no money to spend and that the players who remained with the club after the reign of the previous manager just were not good enough. This included Jacob Butterfield, who had been tried by the previous two management teams and who had been found wanting. I remember writing at the time that any manager who brings in lower league players will soon find his team playing in that lower league. I was prove right too, because in the first 2 home league games of the season, we were clearly two divisions worse than Middlesborough and Southampton. After that, we played some of the best football I had seen in years and I changed my opinion. I think that Keith Hill is cleaver... very cleaver. He has lost the whole of the midfield that played so well for half a season. He knows that this has written off our season. What should he do. Continue to try to win every game, even the ones that he cannot possibly win. Or should he prioritise the remaining games, and in the ones he does not think we can win use the playing time to look at the players to decide who to keep and who to let go, to decide who has the strength of character he needs at the club and who does not. Should he use the loan system to bring in players on huge salaries who are past their best and are just looking for a final payday, or should he use the loan system to test the aptitude of young players with a view to offering them a longer contract next year. In short, none of us know for certain what the future will bring, but I now have faith in the manager, and because I have faith in the manager, I think that next season will be better.
