...does the TV repeatedly measure how good a teams fans are purely by its numbers? Sky Sports should hang their heads in shame tonight. The majority of viewers will have been neutrals and thus, the coverage should have been neutral as well. Yet, I lost count of the number of times I was told how 'great' the Leeds fans were, that they got 38k in for the first leg, that they were so loyal for following them in Div 3 etc etc. No mention however that they got 11,000 for the Herford Fa Cup replay at Elland Road. No mention of a couple of times when they had less than 20,000 for league games this year. No mention that as Europe's fastest growing city - and such a huge catchment area - they are bound to get big crowds......................but most of all, no mention whatsoever of the constant ugly scenes and violence their fans have become associated with over the years. It somehow seems a massive slur, on the loyal fans who watch the lesser clubs season in, season out - without resorting to violence when their team loses - yet rarely if ever get a mention.
Puzzles me does that one They are great fans purely because there are more of them?! How about the Rochdale fans - 30+ years in the bottom division.
All these 'big' clubs, haven't they realised yet that they're all in big cities, therefore they are likely to get more people turning up. It's not even like Leeds have got two clubs in their city like Sheffield, and Wakefield haven't got a decent team.
