Why do I continue to take a look at this forum. I'm trying my best to give up on Barnsley F C but for whatever reason I lured like a moth to the flame. I quietly protest against Conman and co by never returning to Oakwell whilst they occupy the boardroom. I'm enjoying my football fix by supporting my local non league team who are in the midst of their most successful period. Im witnessing some amazing goals wins and games even if they lose I come away with a smile after watching pure emotion fight and team spirit just like the old days. I have supported the reds of Oakwell since the mid 70s during the season before AC came I have witnessed the good the bad and the ugly. This year is the worst, the place is souless depressing and the team ..... It will and can get better but the club is on a edge, it make or break time. Why do I look at the forum, for hope change and positivity. Perhaps I do still care after 36years or so.
I think you’ve answered your own question in your last sentence there buddy. It’s not easy to just not care after so many years caring.
@Helvellyn Red of course you care, that’s why this hurts so much. Billionaires trying an experiment in football with our club, funded by local people. it just isn’t right.
Every single fan has to stop turning up and not return until there gone. NOT A PENNY MORE Total ban of oakwell, the more people turn up the longer it takes, no more fans until rest of season and beyond. But some fans are still colourblind and will still turn up like nothings happening, every fan that turns up is supporting the current mess.
Or maybe they are turning up to support the kids on the pitch, who invariably aren’t good enough but aren’t to blame? Or maybe they are going to watch championship football in the fear that it may be many years before we see us at that level again? Maybe they are fearful the club might disappear altogether? Going to a game does not equate supporting the current owners - especially if it is season pass holders using a ticket already paid for. There are other ways of voicing discontent, staying away isn’t the only one. Though I do fully understand people who are. I’m not ‘staying away’ - though I’m certainly not breaking my back to change anything that might prevent me from attending. I’ve missed as many as I’ve seen this season. And I won’t be renewing, unless something drastic changes; for example the owners.
Absolute rubbish, we have paid for our season tickets & so staying away for the rest of this season is not going to hurt them but it might hurt the players , I dislike the owners as much as the next but I do not go to Oakwell because of them I go to support the lads & when you & the rest stay away next season I fully understand that is your choice, but do not have a pop at anyone who wants to watch their team that is also their choice & rest assured if this lot take us to the Conference I will be still turning up because that is my choice , I watched when we had under 2000 fans at Oakwell & I would do the same again .
Great post HR. For me it's 54 years and like you, whilst I sometimes tell myself I no longer care, I keep coming back here everyday, hoping for some positive news. I know I do care, deeply. My angst and frustration is growing with each passing day and for me at least, it's time to start to fight for the soul of my club, of our club. I'm holding back a little in the hope that in Paul Conway's (I'm staying respectful and polite) interview* he will show some contrition and an acknowledgement of the mistakes made together with a commitment to long term, lasting change and evidence this immediately through action. If that doesn't happen then I'm all in for protesting for the rest of this season and making sure these owners know exactly how I feel. After that I definitely won't renew next season. * With each day that passes and the date of the interview isn't confirmed my sense that they just don't care grows. Imo we're in crisis and the urgency of this communication cannot be understated.
You could well be right but thankfully it is very rare but not unheard of for a team to go under after going in to admin as we ourselves can testify , however it is not a route any of us would welcome ., lets be optimistic & hope we bounce back next season & suddenly become appealing to would be buyers !!!
There will always be hard nose supporters at every club, who doesn't see the problem that needs fixing but to be willing to go to the conference is just taking the phish, I mean what is the point of supporting in the first place.
Not sure what you are saying here but I agree there are many problems at our club that want fixing & they mostly revolve around the owners but there is no way you can criticise anyone who wants to support their team through thick & thin & the point of supporting the team in the first place is precisely that to support the team you love or are you suggesting it is only worth supporting a team if they are successful ? if that is what you are saying then its you who are taking the phish .
I'm exactly the same, I've not been to match in over 5 years but I'm on here daily catching up on news, etc and probably still know more of what's going on around the club that some I know who go week in week out, it's crazy
Does that stand for supporters of Penistone Church, Athersley Rec etc. or even supporters of any non league club?
