Wigan came from non league to premier in a very short time. Their fan base never followed at such a level.
The chief executive has been working some time on the gate problem. He has been encouraging younger people to attend and also families. The idea is to add to the old guard a new generation of supporters who relate to Wigan. So far the gates have been slowly increasing and a new young base of supporters are attending. As far as the Wembley semi final it is nearly certain that Wigan will beat Millwall and be back down to Wembley again. For a family of four to go down after buying tickets rail fares it is estimated a cost of at least £300. Hence a lot could not afford it twice and are gambling on going down for the Final.
With regards to the gates, it is something Barnsley could look at. Families and young people. At Crystal Palace they were having a Family day and young people under 16 were charged £1. A Father from Barnsley with a lad about 10 had to pay £15. Not Barnsley,s fault but still the money has to be found. We had a fan base of 12 to 15 thousand and have lost them. With present Tories policies hitting all round Barnsley I think we are not going to go above 10000. Simply because people cannot afford it, so why not encourage youngsters and Families at a reasonable price.

with all due respect homer, this has been done to death. have a family day and charge a quid - fine. happy with that. but these incentives are based on attracting people back at full price. it's a loss leader. if they don't come back, it's just a loss. and they don't come back. they will come for a quid...maybe...but that's all they'll do. they will then revert to "i'm not paying that"

£20 is a fair price in today's climate. if people can't afford it, they can't afford it. reducing the price further and further does not help. it just costs the Club money. and actually, it doesn't work either.

we have the best form in 2013, and the 30% matchday ticket reduction has made minimal difference to home attendances. all we can do is keep working with what we've got, and hope gradual improvement of results starts to bring people back.

30% discount from a high base.

We need to focus our energy on bulk discounts and inventive ways to drive season ticket sales up if we want to increase the crowds next season - which will hopefully be in the Championship. If we do stay up, the club have got to be risky and try and use the form table and the newly found optimism to drive season ticket bookings.

Missed opportunity already in my opinion with the lack of info on next season
