Hi Guys, I'm just back from Wigan and our 1-0 win. As a team they are quite organised at the back and move the ball around well in mid field but upfront they seemed to lack the killer touch. Lot's chances passed up by terrible shooting, never really troubling our keeper. The closest they came was hitting the bar but really they did not pose too much of a threat to us. Let's hope their poor form continues for Saturday. Hope this helps and I'm glad we were able to soften them up for you. BTW we had 1000 fans down for the friendly. No bad eh? Pity United couldna get a friendly set up with Barnsley. I would just love that.
good man. friendlies are friendlies. wigan will be a tough start. but like micky mellon said at oakwell today - "they will know they've been in a game on saturday"
Cheers for that Ian! I think solong as we can keep their rather creative midfield quiet then we'll be ok, just a shame Etuhu isn't fit. Oh, and fair play in the numbers you took to Wigan, very impressive for a game that means sweet FA! And the fact Wigan is a complete dive. Why has there been so much excitement around the Scottish teams playing per-season games in England mate if you don't mind me asking? lovely persontic, Motherwell, Dundee UTD and Hibs was it? You've all travelled in good numbers. The reason I left Rangers out is because they do have quite a following down here, so it's kinda expected they would get good numbers.
Don't know why mate maybe it's a case of nice to have a wee trip to new teams and stadiums and have a right good time. Let's put it this way, on Friday I will be in Maryhill watching United play Partick Thistle. I mean a night out in Maryhill Glasgow is never a nice thought. Here is a pic of our support yesterday. I'm in there somewhere.
No sure mate. Barnsley is 350 miles from Dundee so maybe you could work it out. Took me 4 1/2 hours on the train.
I meant to also add that I was also at Bolton's game v Real Betis on Friday night. 2-0 Betis and their keeper never had a save to make. Bolton were that poor and even the supporters I spoke to on the train after the game said they expected them to struggle this season. They are not very confident about their team's prospects this season. All good news for us.
Thanks for the two match reports, Ian. Always enjoy your contributions to the BBS. Hope you enjoyed both games. The Reebok is quite a nice stadium, isn't it? I have never been to the new Wigan ground, though. Well done to Dundee Utd on the numbers supporting them at Wigan, and all the best for the forthcoming season.
