I met him again at the Celtic Manor at a charity golf tournament for breast cancer run by Gary McAllister and Andy Gray.

Article continues

Things looked good when we talked and I asked Peter to come and have a chat with him - and it's been rolling on for a long time. We were after Robbie still believing that we would be keeping Michael Chopra, but we couldn't turn down the deal for Chops, so we are still in the market for someone else.

The club is getting stronger and stronger and anyone who says we haven't done good business in selling Chopra is crazy, because five million for one player and Robbie Fowler coming in is a case of probably the biggest transfer out and the biggest transfer in at this moment in time.

With the players that we now have and the stadium ongoing, we're certainly on the map - it's as if we are a new club and it's a good place to be at this moment in time.

What's that Get injured in preseason, fanny about for the next seven months and only put in the effort when contract renewal time is upon us.
Robbie has given his word to us that he will sign, but some of the articles that have been bandied about have been ridiculous.
I won't believe he's signed until I see him wearing a City shirt and holding a ridiculously oversized scarf above his head on the pitch at Ninian Park. Exactly the same thing has happened to us before with the likes of Chris Killen this year and Jody Morris previously hew!: Don't know why but I'd tend to take Robbie Fowlers word for it if he said he was going to sign though.
Yes, without doubt. The guy knows where the goals are and, if he stays fit obviously, I think he'll bag a hatfull in this division. He's always scored wherever he's been, including in a very poor Man City side and a 1 goal in 3 games ratio on his return to Liverpool. He's 32 years old but if you believed some fans reaction you would have thought he was 42! There's still a few years left in him - certainly at this level, and I'm sure he wouldn't want to just fade into oblivion and have people forget his previous achievements. That's what I'm hoping anyway. We'll soon see.
we'd all be hoping the same too , dave jones best get a young up front with him to do all the running though ,
At the moment, it looks like he'll be up front with Steve McClean, although we are still searching for another striker and are, apparently, in talks with 7!. We'll play with two wingers (mainly because we seem to have dozens of them at the club!), from Joe Ledley (20), Peter Whittingham (23), Paul Parry (24) or Trevor Sinclair (107) and they will add that bit of pace up front. At the end of the day though, he's not going to have to be chasing balls all over the pitch and playing on the last defender. Get him the ball in and around the box and I'm sure he's still got enough about him to bag a few goals. We've also got full backs who like to get forward in Kevin McNaughton and Tony Capaldi. Chris Gunter (18) will also be looking to get into the side - if we can keep him that is, what a prospect! I'm sure Fowler, if he signs, will get chances.
