Despite being the opposition boss will he get a good reception from us. I have a lot of time for him and will applaud him.....still hope we shove a big victory up the old Wolves arse but nothing personal to Macca. BT
Absolutely! Complete and utter legend, all round top bloke and one of the nicest people I've ever met. Wish him all the best, except for setdi, obviously.
Why should I? he's done us no favours, and for someone supposedly proud of his roots, he's been particularly unhelpful, whilst Sunderland manager I can think of several occasions when we've gone to loan players and he's said no. I've more respect for Neil Warnock for what he's done for local clubs. Admittedly, my memory isnt all that, but did we win anything when he played for us? Neil Redfearn is a legend, McCarthy doesnt come anywhere near in my eyes. Just coming from Barnsley doesnt make Michael Parkinson any less of a c-u-nt.
RE: Why should I? He was part of the set-up that dragged us fighting out of the 4th Division and on into the second. He's massively proud of his time at the club and talks very happily about it. Was approached on more than one occasion by JD about the manager's job, but didn't want to spoil the relationship he had with the club & town by fecking things up. I'll always rememberĀ him hanging out of the directors box, bare-chested, with a huge cigarĀ and an even bigger grin after promotion. Great days, great bloke.
Brill fella - once offered me a lift home from Manchester Was visiting Maine Rd as part of a project. The guy who was showing me round went to the changing rooms,(just after traaining) brought Macca out to meet me - he stopped & chatted for a while about Barnsley etc, and asked if I needed a lift back to Barnsley. I was ready to ditch my mum there & then!!
Obviously wish him worst of luck Saturday cos nobody comes before the mighty Reds but other than that he is one of the best! I bet he'd still play a blinder in defence!
Macca and Parkinson in same breath! I'm speechless, agree re glory seeker Parkinson but if you saw Macca play you can't possibly not respect and admire him???!
I Won't Be Giving Him One.... however i will not boo him or anything silly. 2moro shouldn't his appreciation society day trip. Their is a time and place for stuff like that. Tomorrow should all be about getting behind the lads NOT the opposition manager. As already mentioned he's turned down being our manager and lent players to other clubs then us knowing we wanted them. So much for loyalty to the team that got him noticed. I appreciate all he's done for us and he would be in my all time Barnsley team. However lets not get behind him 2moro and get his blood pumping for the match. We want him on a downer to pass on to the team. Most important thing 2moro is three points. After that nothing else matters to me.
RE: Why should I? Is there anybody you DO like? Please feel free to include anyone inside the visible universe.
'getting behind him' is one thing. Giving him a rousing reception is another. Do the latter, then get behind the reds for the full 90.
Macca should be awarded the respect he deserves. As a player, he wore the shirt with pride, and has always been proud of being from Barnsley. To not give him a round of applause as he walks to the dugout would be churlish, and would show Barnsley fans in a bad light. Saying that, a chant of "Walking in a Ritchie Wonderland" just after kick-off would balance things up.
RE: best center half we've ever had a the club I doubt that. A good stopper but not as good a footballer as George Spruce.
S.M. please........................................ don't be too sensible, logical and adult with your postings. Come on join those who wear their hearts on their sleeves but do not, under any circumstances, express an opinion, whether true, false or indifferent about someone who is placed on the preverbial pedestal.ff ff ff ff ff
RE: I can't believe you're old enough to have ever seen him play I am not but i am up on my club history and he's achieved alot. It's like people saying Pele is the best ever (or one of them) and never seen him play.
