I remember when we won the ashes, every single tv in the country had the cricket on as it was on channel 4. No matter what pub you went in (some pubs got a small tv just for the cricket alone), or whatever Dixons you walked past the cricket was in your face all the time. Was such an exciting series I'm just wandering if the nation will be as captured with it due to lack of terrestrial coverage. (I know the time zones are different but I'm talking generally)
Timezone factor may be its saving grace .... .... most people would not stop up to watch it overnight anyway even if it was on terrestrial so that fact it is only live on SKY may not make much difference. However, is there going to be a highlights programme on terrestrial in the evenings ? If not then I think it is inevitable that it will not capture the whole country like it did last year. I know SKY threw £millions at them but if it all goes flat then the ECB have only themselves to blame.
RE: Timezone factor may be its saving grace .... Nobody was interested in broadcasting live cricket from overseas tours before Sky got it. They have set the benchmark in sports coverage in this country, it's up to the rest to match them.
"lack of terrestrial coverage" Not quite. Extended highlights on BBC TV every day just before the next day's play starts live. Nor perfect, I'll admit, but better than 'nowt.
