It's pathetic. No new snowfall yet somehow they need to shut. Cue 600 parents at least needing to be off work now because of those decisions
apparently the roads down to Wilthorpe School are a pure sheet of ice. Thats reason 4 shutting; deemed 2 dangerous 4 people getting there.
The roads are horrendous. Slush/Ice = potential accident. However, some people just can't afford to be off work but it's better to be safe than sorry.
I drove from Birdwell to Chapeltown at 7.30am yes there's slush and ice on the road but I drove at around 20mph, left plenty of space and got here. didn't have a problem. I wonder how many self employed aren't getting to work today ?
if the lazy gets aren't on strike they're having the day off cos its a bit cold its about time teachers started living in the real world.
I drove from Royston to Wakefield at 5:20am... And the roads were pretty hazardous. However, that being said, if you take it steady and be cautious, you'll give yourself a greater chance of being safe. However, also on top of that, you really can't predict the roads and how your car will peform on them, in weather such as this.
I also think that anyone under say 38ish probably hasn't driven in snow to any great extent.
Yes the winters were 'snowier' in the late 70s and early 80s so we got plenty of practice.
Also I don't think ABS brakes help.

Birdwell Primary didn't close in the 60s when I went... ... it is today.
I personally think the 'blame/ compentation' culture has an influence on this.
Kid gets in school slips on the ice....
I remember making slides in the playground, one lad 'Kipper Morgan' I think went straight of the end into some builder's rubble and broke his arm. In those days it was 'one of those things' now who knows ?
