haven't you got Nero Showtime or something

else that came with your pc as default player? As I always find WMP to be a bit jumpy anyway.

You need a DVD Decoder installing as well as Media Player - not sure which one to recommend but there are plenty of free ones around, andothers available via emule etc.

If you want to play DVDs free, the best way I know is this:

Install FFDSHOW (do a google) and MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC

When installing FFDSHOW tick the boxes to make it the default decoder for MPEG1 and MPEG 2. Any others that are ticked can safely be left so.

When you run MPC, go into the View menu > Options > Player > Formats.

In the Autoplay box, tick DVD.

Then when you put a DVD in, it will automatically come up with "Play with Media Player Classic" as one of the options. Choose it.

There are other freebies out there but this is a nice, spyware/adware free method that doesn't use up much memory.

    BUT FFDShow

Messes up Windows Movie Maker and causes it to crash constantly...so unfortunately I had to offload it, becaase I use Movie Maker a fair bit.

    RE: Does it?

Yeah mine kept crashing and when I followed the advice from Microsoft about how to fix the error it said that the problem was caused by FFDShow.exe and to visit the FFDShow forums for an answer. I went to the forums and there werea fewothers having the same problem as me....but unfortunately no solution.

    RE: Does it?

If you go into the Options section of Movie Maker, in the Compatibility tab you can uncheck codecs you don't want MM to use.
FFDShow was already unchecked for me, which I don't remember doing manually, but it seems if it is checked, this is what causes you problems.
