When I boot my PC it gets to the Windows (Vista) loading screen with the scrolling progress bar and then doesn't progress from there. I reset and get the Windows didn't start properly menu. I can then choose to use the last known working configuration thing and it boots fine. I say fine, I now notice that Norton 360 hasn't started (or at least the icon isn't in the tray).

I have to do this everytime I boot up. So what's happening in between? I notice that the following updates are available to install... do you think it is background installing these and they are the culprits?

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2008 (KB890830)
Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista (KB940157)

I wish Microsoft wouldn't keep messing about. WHy can't they just release a product that works then leave it alone? I'm probably missing the point there but it does wind me up.

You can imagine my reaction when I finally managed to boot up only to find that the Barnsley World commentary isn't available anyway. It's a good job my neighbour is deaf!
