A friend has a new Vaio with Windows Vista Home Premium on it.After looking on the interweb I believe it comes with Windows Firewall and Windows Defender. Is there any need for her to download any further protection?

They do come with Vista.... ...and yes, she'd be well advised to get extra protection. From what I read, both are regarded as reasonable for free software but that's about it. Of course, all security software is only partially effective and I don't think anybody truly knows how much is necessary and whether they are sufficiently protected. Most security software seems a bit "black box" to me. I have a firewall built into my wireless router but is this effective? Chuff knows.
She should get further protection if she is planning to have sexual intercourse and doesn't want a kid. apparently vista is ***** for that - bloody Microsoft and the loopholes in their operating systems! Seriously though - I'd got Vista and have those, but my PC also came with McAfee so I'm running both.
