A friend has a new Vaio with Windows Vista Home Premium on it.After looking on the interweb I believe it comes with Windows Firewall and Windows Defender. Is there any need for her to download any further protection?</p>

    They do come with Vista....

...and yes, she'd be well advised to get extra protection. From what I read, both are regarded as reasonable for free software but that's about it. Of course, all security software is only partially effective and I don't think anybody truly knows how much is necessary and whether they are sufficiently protected. Most security software seems a bit "black box" to me. I have a firewall built into my wireless router but is this effective? Chuff knows.

    She should get further protection

if she is planning to have sexual intercourse and doesn't want a kid.
apparently vista is ***** for that - bloody Microsoft and the loopholes in their operating systems!

Seriously though - I'd got Vista and have those, but my PC also came with McAfee so I'm running both.
